Cryptocurrency Mining

Can anyone possibly help / guide me in the right direction with this issue I am having.

So back story, was running Win 10 and NiceHash on 6x 1060 3GB’s until the latest update which won’t allow 3GB cards to mine on Win 10 because of DAG size etc.

So I moved over to SMOS and got everything working except for some reason I couldn’t overclock nearly as much as I was able to using Windows - would set the OC which I know works but then 5 minutes later would get an error saying it had to restart due to too much overclock/undervolt.

I also added 4 more 1060 6GB’s to the rig and after battling with OC I decided to give Windows 7 a go as there are no issues with DAG size etc.

After some battles I finally get Win 7 installed and drivers updated which is where the new problem comes in.

Device manager picks up all 9 cards but two of them have the below problem:

9ca8450c6519dcf377b7a8535a404b1a.heic

c21ca16345b088a5f5857198552615be.heic

Afterburner also only sees 7 cards.

No matter how many times I reinstall drivers, update just the problem ones, restart etc I can’t get them working.

I have changed BIOS settings to PCIe Gen1 as recommender online and made sure above 4g encoding is Enabled but still nothing.

When I start Claymore Dual Miner, it also only mines off 7 cards.

Any idea what else I could try to get them working?

Just making sure but you are running at least Windows 10 1709?
EDIT: I see you are trying this on Windows 7. Wont work too many cards, upgrade to Windows 10 1709 or HiveOS if you REALLY want to point this at ethash algos
Also DAG size is only relevant to ethash. Those 1060s should run very well on LyraRev2 algos and dont have that restriction

HiveOS ftw

Yeah trying on Windows 7 as on the forums they say there are no problems with 3GB cards and DAG size.

With Windows 10 I tried an older version and disabled auto updates etc but then I can't get the Nvidia drivers to install - I get an error saying no supported devices (I know once I update Windows this starts to work but I cant update windows).

The updated version of Windows 10 doesn't allow 3GB cards to mine ETH as Windows 10 now uses more vram thus making the 3GB cards not possible to use.

I have tried searching for a Windows 10 version before the update and that works with Nvidia drivers but have had no luck thus far.

Any other ideas? Or should I look at mining something else? Currently have 6x 3GB 1060's and 3 x 6GB 1060's - what would be profitable? As far as I know ETH is the most profitable to mine on my setup but am willing to try something else to just get this up and running again to be honest.

You have too many cards for Windows 7 now

So your options are a linux based OS or Windows 1709 or higher if you would like to keep all the cards on a single rig
Linux, like SMOS and HiveOS will let you mine ETH. If you do go Linux, i really suggest trying HiveOS. Its a lot smoother experience than SMOS, for me at least.
Windows you wont beable to mine eth, you would have to find another coin to mine. 1060s are pretty decent at Equilhash coins and Lyra2rev2 coins.
If you wanna just slap it together to get it running quickly. Windows 1709 or higher and go nicehash. Not sure about your driver issue, maybe try HiveOS and watch a few videos on Youtube to help get it setup

Yeah windows 7 only supports max 7 cards at a time - it picks up all 9 but 2 of them have that yellow explanation mark on them.

Back to SMOS for the time being as too much wasted time not mining. For some reason the OC just doesn’t work that well for me on SMOS - can only add +725 for the cards (half of what it should be) before it crashes after minutes and reboots.

I will let it run for the night and maybe give HiveOS a go in a couple of days.

If I can’t get decent returns on the cards per day in either SMOS or Hive might just give Windows 10 a go again and use a different coin - surely NiceHash will also give errors on ETH tho?

Yea but you can just disable the algo

I am going to give HiveOS a go but if I cant get the OC working correctly might just go back to Windows 10 then and mine on LyraRev2 as you recommend and see how it goes.

Do you have any suggestions on what to mine to give most profitability using the 9 1060's (6x 3GB and 3x6GB)?

Really hope the HiveOS thing works out for you, it works a treat for me!
The next best thing on those cards of yours is equilhash algos. So its upto you what you want to mine with it.
If you do go LyraRev2 coins, use the new CryptoDredge miner. Its AWESOME! Windows only for the moment though, however my 1080TIs are doing 82Mh/s THATS NUTS D:

Gonna give HiveOS a go this weekend / soon as I have today started mining LiteCoinZ (Equihash algo) as it seems to payout around $10 profit per day for the time being so will stick with that and keep watching for when / if price drops quite a bit.

On SMOS I am getting roughly 2200 Sol/s from the 9 cards (roughly 244 Sol/s per card) but just tested my 1 1060 on Windows machine and with the OC I am averaging about 340 Sol/s with the card so gonna try all 9 on Windows and see if it is stable.

Use DSTM for equilhash algos. Especially linux. 0.6.1 has some speed increases. Not everyone is stable on that version for some reason

If anyone is interested, selling 4x 1080tis and 30x 1070s.
Various brands. Some imported some local.

Drop me a PM if interested.

Attention South African Crypto Miners,

We would like to setup local mining pools for low latency mining in ZA/Southern Africa.
Obviously there are many considerations to make when choosing to setup a mining pool, which pool software, what coins/algos do we setup, etc etc

We have the hardware and links to facilitate it but we will need hashpower and there is no guarantee that whatever coins/algorithms we choose will draw enough miners.

So we want to put the questions out there and see the response.

Which coins/algorithms would you like to see? What are you currently mining and would you be prepared to move your hashpower over to a local pool?

Our first coin will be GinCoin on Lyra2z. Any seconds on this?

There is a thread created for this in "Cryptocurrency and Blockchain", reply there if you can.

Thanks!

Can someone please tell me how much my mining rig would use on electricity? It is 6x 1060's. Am located in Blouberg, Cape Town.

I thought these cards don't use much electricity but this past month my electricity usage has been alot higher (also been really hot in Cape Town so aircons been running most days too) so just want to find out if anyone is able to assist.

If usage is correct, then the mining is not worth it now. I know this is due to coins price drop but worked out to be just under R3k in coins after a month of mining.
around 850watt in total

Wow I actually forgot to update here.

Been running for the last 2 months now and have actually added an additional 3 x 1060 6GB cards.

Total power consumption for the 9 card rig is only 645W and only uses around 390kWh (as far as I know kWh equals 1 unit of electricity) so where I’m from that is less than R1000 per month which I had originally budgeted for which I’m very happy about.
