Cryptocurrency Mining

Expect to use 5-10% more electricity doing this
Did this, just to see if I can determine the draw from the PS, but the reading from the UPS management interface is far from helpful, pretty much only showing me the % output load rather than numbers.

Go figure.

Won't be leaving it on here, was just to see if I can get that info.

I'll post sums for my solar cost calcs later in the week. So far it's R8650 for all but charge controller and inverter with batteries being the most expensive (4x deep cycle 102ah). The batteries will keep a rig with 1200W PSU running for 2 days which should be OK in winter given the +-5 hours of sun during the day. Add 2 more for 3 days run.
The panel is a 2500w unit.
As you can see, it's not cheap, but once you've made that up, it's money for jam.

Are you sure? By my rough calculation, you way out. Hoping I am wrong.

How is a 250W panel providing an output of 750W (typical 6GPU power draw from wall)... :erm: I'd say you're out by like R15k just to run the thing during daylight hours. And those batteries will be lucky to power a 750W rig for 4 hours. So now you need even more panels (extra power to charge batteries) and a metric ton of extra batteries. I'd say you're looking at R120k or so for 2 days backup

Agree, I had roughly calculated similar prediction. Notwithstanding the 50% DOD on a deep-cycle, the available AHs will be halved, plus factor in puekert's law. Roughly looking at 90 minutes run-time at constant 1200w draw. A 250w panel cannot replenish that consumption.

That was a typo - missing 0.

The confusion by NiceHash calculator is too damn high!

Two identical 1050's and a 270x. I know this particular 270x is full of kuk so its likely turned itself off (again, poor thing, at times I pushed her to over 100 degrees C, but it was an old card so I don't think it will last much longer)

Hi guys. Quick question. My PC is often on overnight busy downloading stuff. I have a GTX960 in there for gaming. Would it be worth it to use the GPU for mining while downloading through the night? Since the hardware is already there. Not worried about mining 24/7, just using the hardware for something while it is on, say 8 hours per night.

Thanks

Yes won't be mega bucks, but free money is free :P

+0.00053586 BTC/Day (+1.50 USD/Day) according to the nichehash calculator, 8 hours won't give you much of anything.

What you must realise is that finding a share is in part a LUCKY event. So over 24 hours the hashrates of equal cards will become equal, but over 5 minutes one could easily have 2x the hash of the other, simply because it was lucky to find some shares in quick succession.

Yeah, it won't be worth it since it will use that amount of electricity in those 8 hours alone.
