Cryptocurrency Mining

R1.71 a unit here in EL

Think i need do a mining rig, seeing as i can put one here at work.
Have 9 offices, place them in the server rooms, aircon, free electricity and data :D
 
Has any one used bitgear.co.za or bitmart.co.za or leetpro.co.za?
And what would you guys suggest? By a( 6x rx570( or 470 depending on stock)) or (6 x gtx 1060 )or (4 x gtx 1070)rig the prices are fairly close. R49000 to R56000 . Or should I rather try build up a rig? Keep in mind this will be first rig for me.
 
If you can source the components and they available. Build it yourself. Youtube can guide you to setting it up if you really dont know how. If you go RX cards you might want to consider pre-built but then the cards must have been pre-modified already otherwise it's a waste

I'm PC savvy (quite savvy, in fact) - just can't be arsed trying to find GPU's at reasonable prices and put it all together. Also, I live in London so space is a problem (don't have a room or garage I can dedicate to the project).

Will probably get round to it when I move further out, but until then I'll just let someone else do all the dirty work.
 
So far it seems that different places have different stock available s it will involve buying from all over the place. but what would be better 4 x 1070's or 6 x 1060's or t6 of the rx 580 or 570 but looking at things i think i would have better luck with the nvidias.

Does Ram make a huge difference? should i aim for 8 GB r 4 Gb? also do all the cards have to be the same or could i mix and match as i source more? eg. 106 and 1070? or will all the cards have to be more or less the same eg. 1060 6gb?

What operating system should i get the EthOS or Windows 10?

windows 10, 4GB will be fine for 6 GPUs. you can mix cards. I have NVIDIA and AMD cards in one rig no complaints all working together. Personally I would go for the 4x1070s if you can skip the rx 580s and 570s unless you can get them for R4000 per card.

Nice think about living there is, you can stop paying for central heating as the rigs keep the flat warm :P
 
So everything has arrived!!!

Will build the rig tomorrow and install windows then the other 5 cards and try find some video about how to correctly configure everything. Hopefully everything runs smoothly and just “works”.

Like GTX said, differs between algos. I run some Sapphire RX580 4G Nitros with Hynix memory, and out the box they were heavy on power and slow. I then started looking around for a custom bios for those cards but couldn't find one that worked, the ones i found just gave errors, so i started playing around with some of the values and now i have a bios that gives me 70W while doing 29Mh/s on dagger, and 105W dual mining dagger/decred doing 28/860 Mh/s.

To mine ETH or ETC :confused:
I know which is more profitable right now, but in one month from now which one would have the bigger gains?
 
does one get the pci-risers with the molex or the 6 pin ? heard some horror stories with molex connectors.

so for example would i connect the molex adapter on the pci riser and the 8 pin on my gpu itself ?

yes can connect molex or use molex to sata. You also get risers that accept, sata,molex and 6pin. These are expensive ones, I keep one of them spare if something fails.

The main think is to only connect 2 risers per string of cable coming from the psu.

Nothing wrong with the molex risers. Just don't overload your sata cable and you'll be fine. 2 risers per cable max.
