Crystal Web DSL performance feedback thread Part 4...

Telkom ISP will manage his line, if he takes a telkom account?
Or are they playing in Openserve's arena now?

I think you need to take your medication, Telkom.co.za sell DSL lines just like Crystalweb.co.za

I don't understand why you brought up Openserve, they are not the ones customers deal with.

/sigh

You can't move your line to "telkom" and take an afrihost account, for example. In the past, you bought your line from telkom. Sometimes you bundled it with your data from another ISP, but it was up to you. The division of telkom you bought your line from was unbundled and is now Openserve, who you as a member of the public cannot deal with directly...

I think you're confused.

Openserve is an entity that runs infrastructure and sells access to it on a wholesale basis.

Telkom, Crystalweb, Vox, Afrihost etc are entities that act as agents that provide a service.

I can call Telkom right now and say I want to sign up for ADSL and they will give me ADSL and I pay them, I NEVER talk to Openserve. I can get bundled lines and data from Telkom, or I can get a standalone line from Telkom and get my data from whoever I want.
Anakha56 needs to call CW and say cancel my service, then once the service is cancelled he needs to call Telkom to ask them to migrate the line to them.

Simple.

Hmm ok I wasn't aware telkom still did standalone lines. Everything else you said is what I said.

Stop referring to telkom.
Telkom do not do lines any more, they are purely an ISP, just like all the others.
Openserve do the lines.

Openserve are wholesale. They will not bill you directly. They bill the ISP that manages your line.
When you cancel with CW your line goes into a holding pool as I understand it, and whichever ISP you transfer to will take it over from a retail perspective?

Considering that consumers never interface with Openserve, and Telkom is billing them instead, it's perfectly normal to say that their line comes from Telkom. Because that's what they see, and Telkom owns Openserve. I know a lot of people still have their line managed by WebAfrica or Afrihost with a low-cap account purely to be able to manage it without calling the Telkom call centre.

How else did you think people were able to just move between ISPs on a whim?

Thank you all for the lively discussion :). Now I know the route to take. I would rather pay slightly more and have my line with me and being able to use any account than being tied to an ISP who can get DDoS'ed and they have no idea what to do. Yes this is after the horse has bolted but live and learn and all that... :)

One more cancellation over here. Been with them for so long, lost their niche when NH died and the free news server became useless for me, but stayed because of premium quality and service. The few data/account leaks, and short lived DDoS attacks along the way was bearable, but lately I can't do anything on the internet

So glad they never offered free router, installation and connection setup on fibre like other ISPs or would have taken it a month ago and be stuck with them now... well, off I go, it was fun, then not, now it sucks.

So my router was scanned by someone in the States over the DDoS period... Luckily it does not look like they gained access...

The CW account is dead in the water for me atm.
Fortunately I do have 2 other backup accounts.

Same time round about every day for all customers .... not a proper day's internet since the month started, awesome to pay for farkall service

I'm currently at CW with data + line. How long will it take to transfer both to Afrihost? And will there be downtime?

Optimistically, two working weeks. One week back into the holding pool at Telkom, and the second week to have Afrihost take over management of the line.

Same. Cancelled today

Gone again I see ..... how about my money back seeing as it's a service paid for but not offered

I feel for those without backup accounts.

My 30GB backup account is almost 45% used and still not sure about moving to VOX as they only do debit orders.

How long does it take to receive the cancellation confirmation email? I cancelled last night and still not received.
