Crystal Web DSL performance feedback thread Part 4...

Hi I'm not with CW...Don't shout me down just wanted some advice. Browsing MyBB I'm looking for a new DSL provider. I do all the things you'd expect online STREAMING; Downloading; working. I've been with Afrihost for years. Never had a problem; shaping p2p; http and nntp during peak evening times I understand. I don't mind it. But since I got a VPN (NordVPN) for my business the uncapped package speeds suck between 19:00 and 23:00 on my VPN doesn't matter what I do. (Surfing; Streaming; anything)

Before you say it's the VPN when I switch to a capped account everything flies during the same times. I don't know if I should just pull the trigger and go capped to avoid this. But CW seems popular on Mybroadband is their any issues I should know about? I'm in Cape Town.

I'm in the Eastern Cape and streaming is rubbish for me the last two to three weeks.

I haven't checked with support and tried using my Afrihost account and that seems to run better atm than my CW account, so I'm currently using the AH account.

Before the the mentioned period I had a great experience with my 4Mbps premium uncapped account.

I am in Cape Town, been having pretty good performance.

Have you checked recently since treebsd posted this:

Sry for double post. The CW website isn't setup so well and finding information isn't easy. The Extreme Capped accounts are they unshaped? The 00:00 to 18:00 free data sounds amazing. But it sounds like a uncapped package... I'm worried that my encrypted data would be shaped during 19:00 to 23:00 on a uncapped account even CW's Premium Uncapped.

It is on Afrihost and Axxess uncapped accounts but those are very alike. Pretty much thr same network.

Entered my CW details in the router and WinMtr results of CW tests are considerably better than AH's.

Haven't tried streaming yet.

My Afrihost Capped account and Axxess Capped has no issues behind my VPN. It streams 720p-1080p no problems. I changed to a axxess premium uncapped and it throttles EVERYTHING behind a VPN after 19:00 to 23:00 same with premium uncapped Afrihost.

Now I know that CW runs on IS as well and I don't want to sign up if it would be exactly the same; It's the most expensive but ppl do seem to be happy mostly.

Maybe the best to check with support then. I've noticed that I lose about 1Mbps on my 4 Meg line behind VPN, but I'm not sure if that is constant or even if certain hours are used. I rarely use it, so I can't really give feedback on that aspect.

Thanx might do that. I have a VPN for my business and it's setup through my router so everything runs through it; Netflix; PS4 and Mobiles. Maybe have to re-think my setup because going capped for streaming might cost me a bundle...

The only issue I've had with them since August in Brackenfell is NNTP being iffy last week. Otherwise, been streaming Supersport and catch up, doing online gaming with no issues. I wouldn't use AH in the Cape though, just because of online gaming, I'd rather use Axxess over them if not CW.
 
Last nights gaming experience in HoTS (blizzard servers) was terrible, stuttering all over the place, just got worse as it got later.

Could not game on local servers once again using CW. Had to resort to AH backup account to game. CW was plagued by packet loss and latency spikes yesterday. (Orkney, NW)
 
Again having issues the whole weekend 1.2 download speeds on a 4mg line support not much help surely they should realize there is problem if so many of us are having the same issues??????

Yep packet loss is the name of the game at the moment, was the gaming on AH better packet loss wise?
