Crystal Web DSL performance feedback thread Part 4...

Yet another day with unusable internet. I can't even load Vox's website :D

If Vox isn't terrible, it'd save me a good R~350pm. I have an uncapped account with CW but I don't actually use more than 200-300GB of data per month.

To be honest, I'm not expecting Vox to be good. But at least I'm expecting them to be not as terrible as Crystal Web. Bad internet connectivity beats unusable internet connectivity. Most of my data usage happens at night, and I could probably even get away with a 100GB account with Vox, which is what I had when I started with Crystal Web.

I tried to sign up for an account with Vox, but the sign-up process was so complicated and so full of problems that I didn't succeed. Unfortunately, since Crystal Web is now broken again.

Oh well, Crystal Web bought themselves another day to get this mess fixed. Not that I think they will...

Just got home, turned on the TV and was streaming some overseas news then it just froze. Checked my speed on Speedtest and not even getting 1mbps on my 4 meg line. Normally I get 3.94 as we live very close to the exchange. Last night the internet went off completlely at around 10.30. I rarely had trouble with CW in the past and I’ve been a premium client for more than two years.
If this is the standard of the service from CW since the usernames all changed on the 1st then I’ll be cancelling with them soon. This is simply not good enough.

Yes internet seems to be broken. An incredibly frustrating experience so far. :(

Just phoned them now, they can't help me as my line is with Crystal Web and they don't sell Fibre standalone data.

If your provider is openserve (telkom) then you should be able to sign up for an 'adsl' contract and then use those login details on your fibre router as normal. It should just work.

Not even CW's live chat link is working tonight! How can a good ISP like CW go downhill overnight (literally), like this?
Anyone have any decent ISP's they can recommend that cater for streaming?

Nope, Vox couldn't help, they want Line and Data. What's interesting is that Axxess and Afrihost 1GB DSL trial accounts don't work either. My Fibre line is with Crystal Web and Openserve.

Sounds like it is network lock in a way.

Looks like Openweb is my new ISP, they replied instanly when I used their chat feature, and all the questions I asked they gave the right answers. They are also MUCH cheaper than the non existent service I get from CW

then you've got a line problem.
Openserve uses exactly the same mechanism as adsl for authentication etc.

I've just phoned MWEB and they've confirmed that same thing. They said it is possible over OpenServe ADSL, but not over OpenServe Fibre. They want the line and data. Even their product pages don't offer standalone fibre data
