Crystal Web fibre

Dammmmm, the performance is sh4t at the moment, anyone else sitting with same experience, CW+OS.

You'll have to be more specific. Is it latency, download, upload, P2P etc?

I've had slow international connectivity with CW for a while now, and usenet has always been slow. Local connectivity is perfectly fine. Also on Openserve.

My area is getting Fibre and I'm shopping for ISP. I would prefer capped accounts, but see that Crystalweb does not offer those. Also slightly hesitant to trust them again, because I fell foul of the deprioritizing accounts back in June. Never got that resolved even after mailing legal.

Now to my question. How are they these days? Anybody have feedback on 100Mb/100Mb on Vumatel in the Western Cape?
Also any issues with fair usage policy etc. I cannot find any limits on usage on their site, but I know they all have them.

I can't recommend CW anymore - international speeds are dire. I suggest looking elsewhere. From next month I'll be with Cool Ideas.

I would step past CW at the moment, or make that CW+OpenServ.

If you can get CW over say Vuma, ye ok, But I'm switching to Vuma+CoolIdease as soon as Vuma has fibre laid.

oh btw, CW def does capped amounts, I'm on their 150GB package, take note they only sum towards that 150GB between 18:00 and 0:00 which is great.

Would have stayed with them if it was not for Openserv.

I am quite surprised that Crystal Web ranks in the top 10 ISPs in the MyBroadband survey. Based on that I signed on for 10Mbps uncapped on Frogfoot fibre. I did a few speed test on day one and found that the upload speed drops to around 1.2Mbps after say 4 tests.

I logged a ticket and the support person started with factory resetting my router (which I did not do), then doing network monitoring claiming the 4% delay through the router causes the problem. Cleary not understanding that it cannot cause a 90% drop. What I found out was that by signing out and in again, getting a new IP address, gives me say another two 9.7Mbps symmetrical up and downloads as contracted. I patiently communicated with the different support people over a week. They then said it must be a Frogfoot problem and “logged” a ticket with FF.

I later enquired about the ticket number and asked to talk to the manager. No ticket number, no manager and I cancelled the contract. Then I again read their marketing material on the Frogfoot portal and saw they dropped the Unthrottled part.

I am looking for a new ISP – In the top 10 again??

Cool Ideas. Unlike those amateurs at Crystal Web, Cool Ideas has an actual network, portal, customer service and won’t beat around the bush when there is an issue.

I'd also highly recommend Cool Ideas. Been with them for about 9 months now and not had any problems. No throttling, shaping or anything. I always get full speed no matter the time of day.
