On a side note, to all CW users and one's to come. PLEASE don't abuse HTTP for your downloads during business hours, I don't want my HTTP to be shaped during business hours if I need to download the occasional driver, app or update.

So downloading the new iOS would be such crime?

No, tunnelling everything through port 80 and downloading 10+GB a day during business hours would be such a crime, resulting in CW shaping port 80 as well on downloads like Afrihost was forced to do. The new IOS, well all the apple fan boys that jumps on that download, the thing normally shapes itself due to demand. :P

To all ADSL internet users,

We're currently testing a line quality monitoring tool and would like you to participate. This tool will give you detailed live and historical data of your exchange, allowing us to offer you even better support, and allowing you to have insight into potential problems, such as exchange congestion and downtime, in real-time, as well as being able to look back to see specific data on specific dates and at specific times. It also allows us to submit data to have exchange congestion issues resolved in highly congested areas.

If you'd like to be a part of this for the next 3 weeks, please email [email protected] with the subject "Exchange congestion" and all details will be submitted to you immediately thereafter.

But this is not only for customers of Crystal Web. Any ADSL internet user in SA can apply for this trial, and we'll begin to collect data for you for the next 3 weeks. Thereafter we will evaluate the situation and make a call on whether or not to introduce this.

For now your application to take part will only result in us collecting data on your behalf, and we will submit this data to you on a periodic basis. If we implement this fully, it will be integrated into the customer portal.

So feel free to take part so that we can properly evaluate whether this is a viable system for long term implementation.

Regards

Crystal Web

You want this from people with under used exchanges as well?

Super excited about this monitoring of exchanges, will put that info in my sig so hopefully it is spread across users who don't visit this thread or seen as spam if posted in other feedback threads :p.

Maybe CW should put in your sig current status of the network, can't miss that info unless you just want to post negative feedback

Something just occured to me that may not be something in the pipeline right now but will there be an affiliate program / reseller portal? This seems to make sense if you want to generate income being a student and trying to sell off items now :).

"linux distros" :erm:

Also a very real possibility. But even upgraded exchanges don't always mean great performance increases unfortunately as it all depends on what exactly was upgraded and what the demand in the area looks like. I do hope your issues are resolved though.

so a Telkom techie arrived yesterday afternoon whilst I was away, tested my line, ignored all the evidence of my problem that I'd left and said the problem lies with my ISP, wish I'd been there to kick him in the nuts. Back to square one.

Know the feeling. Had huge exchange congestion here at work, the Telkom tech then plugged the line into his ADSL modem and said no look it syncs at 4mbps. He only admitted it was exchange congestion when I forced him to do a speedtest via their own telkom site.

Regarding that line tool feedback - i sent an email and then sent the required info but now i got a message from CW support saying there might be a congestion or line issue here. Must we reply with the same subject header cause i also see after registering that now i got two support tickets open :p.

Rather confusing on my part :(.

I don't have any issues wrt browsing / downloading atm fyi using another iSP.
