How about some info:

Backbone?
Do you run your own IPC?
Resell?

Might have a few clients coming your way from TI.

Hi Eddie,

The technical details of the business will be released slowly over the course of the next few weeks, but please bear in mind that we haven't yet launched, which is why we asked our customers and those we communicated with to keep things to themselves for now, and not to create threads like these yet. I guess Taranis was really, really eager.

In terms of backbones, we evaluated many, and have in fact set this business up to be flexible on that front, but we have chosen Cybersmart as our backbone after testing. The mybroadband speed test results page proves how solid a performer their backbone is. But we do not resell Cybersmart products.

We sell our own products, with our own control, and our own pricing. Every consumer-facing ISP is a reseller of sorts, and we're no different, but our approach certainly is...

Drop a mail to [email protected] and a ticket is yours...:D

An automated (through email) ticket system is acceptable to an end, but is it manageable by the customer?

I don’t do it with new companies… should your entity be interested in establishing alliances you can throw me a PM, currently we do have space in the broadband spectrum.

Certainly manageable by the customer. We're integrating the support into our Crystal Customer Portal but for now it's operating as a separate beast, and is always monitored. Everyone who's communicated with us can attest to this.

PM coming your way...

Currently running as a diversified package builder on the DSL side of things - the suppliers are on short notice as to quality of service.

Running on cybersmart backbone won't this be very limited on what you can do for pricing? Sounds to me that this will be a lot like the old wazzup isp.

We build custom packages, and no, it's not limiting, as our current pricing indicates. Indicative of our agility to move on pricing will be the introduction of cheaper capped packages in line with recent market developments, and as an added bonus, we'll be shifting our existing customers to these packages should they choose too...

That's quite interesting.

I've always found IS bandwidth to be the best in SA(when not messed with by the reseller ISP). VOX is also right up there.

Any plans on making bandwidth rollover? Even if there's a "rollover" charge added.

That's awesome, but will the lower priced capped products now perform worse and have higher contention?

No point having a new ISP that's gonna match on price, but be just on crap.

Many of us are on business accounts as quality is more important than cheapness.

Hi Chevron,

I'm quite certain you won't be disappointed with the experience on Crystal Web, and utilising the Cybersmart backbone for our current offerings doesn't mean we're limited to only offering this sort of package in future. ;)

If there is a demand and business case for rollover data we will consider it. For now we are exploring other ways to please customers in the capped data space...

Agreed, and no. We won't be punishing and hoodwinking our customers just to try to give them more. And if the product will perform differently, we'll be upfront about it...

I love this thread. Thank you :)

Now please make me a 50GB capped account so I can sign up right away :D

I'm not clear on the technical ramifications of all this, but one issue I had when I was with Cybersmart was international game latency was not working very well for me (although in the interests of transparency, they were very helpful and motivated to help me solve the issue, I just ran out of energy at some point during the fairly exhaustive diagnostic process).

Long rambling short - Any idea how you guys do regarding latency to the EU region? As a point of comparison, my Afrihost account is consistently sub 200 ms (often in the 170 region), and this is just fantastic.
