Crystal Web (NEW ISP) ADSL Feedback

Strange, I managed 4.9GB yesterday without even trying.
CS:Go Latency was lower to EU servers.
I was able to stream 1080p via Youtube which I've never been able to do.
As well as streaming HD sport via ACEstream which I've also never been able to do.

Hmmm, that is quite strange.
I just checked again and Twitch is dead in the water.
Tried watching a trailer from crackle.com still the same.

For some reason I cannot connect to my vent server as well using crystalweb, even a ping comes back with general failure.

EDIT: Ah I see some above me have the same issues

im also finding issues with whatsapp instagram and just general browsing, including local sites. even the Mrs is complaining. Lets just see how this pans out

This industry is an ecosystem of competitor-colleagues to make things work. Our surest guarantee to customers of quality of service is that our service can be cancelled for month end and the customer can with minimal fuss to the customer sign up with another provider who similarly operates with a month to month term. We act as a guarantor to other ISPs that provide a month to month position. My greatest hope is that MTN do not interfere with some of the core attributes of Afrihost and allow Afrihost to continue to be a benevolent player in the industry.

True, never compromise with the building blocks ;)

@Paul and DJ... now that MTN has it's claws in Afrihost, you might want to milk it :)
I'm certainly no longer feeling very loyal to Afrihost. I love Gian and the team but, this is MTN we're talking about. One of the firms I feel least patriotic torwards in our country.

Well their Uncapped at R240 a month is a life saver when I go away or power goes out at home. Anyway before CW can start milking it they must first fix it to work as promised. :)

Maybe try some different DNS servers? Such as google: https://developers.google.com/speed/public-dns/

Edit: I would just find it interesting as some people on Afrihost have reported that changing to another DNS server sometimes helps them :D

Is it possible to directly connect to a better peering location. Or is that influenced by unotelly. http://www.peeringdb.com/view.php?asn=2906

After speaking to Unotelly support and doing some further tests. Netflix determines the streaming link you receive. I think they perform some tests to determine which server is fastest. I have seen on the HTML5 video streamer of Netflix, that you can influence the stream link from a few options (in the hidden options menu). But I don't currently have a Win 8.1 pc to test. Will do those tests later in the week.

Our apologies. There is a hardware failure on the international link. Ah, the joys.

I've been in constant meetings about this today to have it resolved and am waiting for some crucial feedback before I can update further. sincere apologies - this will be resolved come hell or high water.

This is the reason for the slow throughput at the moment. If it's international it may be slow - it's our issue at the moment, not your Telkom line or another fault - definitely on our end.

Will update soonest with an ETA for resolution...

So how does one sign up for an account? Might want to try something other than afrihost(shape) for a while?

Thanks for the update.

Wow you are awesome. Every other isp would have blamed Telkom by now or something else. Hat's off to you. I may bitch a lot at times, but definitely respect that what you just said.

When's the official launch, though? Forgive my ignorance, but I've seen you're not currently subscribing new clients until launch a few days ago.. are we supposed to report back how our accounts are running cause of testing, etc? Sorry if this is a retarded question.

The accounts are not test accounts and we didn't create this thread. The launch is dependent on several factors including finalizing the website development and the coming on stream of capacity on the backbone network.

I got an email with pricing on the 10mb uncapped and was thinking of trying it out but as this will be my only internet account I think I will wait a week or so until the initial problems are sorted out.
Last thing I need is the family complaining about no internet...:D

The honesty is great (even if I'm a little peeved with the product so far...)

A dev suggestion:
It would be really cool if Crystal Web could send me an email each time I authenticate / lose authentication (configurable on/off). Especially useful when I'm not home, so I know my internet is down.

That would cause chaos if your line was flapping cause of Telkom :D

I had that happen once with some device connected to iBurst (can't remember, too long ago)
The mailbox got so clogged up we had to delete its contents by actually purging the files on the filesystem.

That's just not really feasible. Take 1000 customers all testing their lines. There's an individual who yesterday tested his account to such an extent that he connected and disconnected 48 times. Or let's say there's an error somewhere and this happens. We're talking hundreds of thousands of SMSs every month, potentially. Not only could that cause a bottleneck on the network itself, but it could cost a fortune if something goes wrong, and for little benefit to most end users other than an FYI...

You know what amazes me... international is down.... YET I CAN STILL USE THE INTERNET..... Openweb used to tell me my Telkom like was stuffed... with them I got NOTHING... morsdood, like a mozzie klapped dead with a shoe on the wall.
