Sigh. From the support ticket I can see assumptions being made. I suppose I'm now forced to redo all the tests using AH/WA/OW/Vodacom/god knows to show it is CW that is fubar.

Not at all. I just checked the support ticket and the agent asked if you were using a VPN or alternate DNS service, which may explain why some traffic is not routing to local sources. There's no need to run tests using various accounts. We accept that you are having issues, and are trying to determine whether they are all the result of the international issue, or whether we are having troubles routing Steam traffic that needs to be fixed. You also mentioned Google Maps is a problem and this is what caught our internal eye, as this could only mean that the traffic is routing internationally for you and not for everyone else. This indicates something in your setup. Knowing your proclivity for VPN use, it makes sense for our agent to ask whether this traffic was subject to a VPN or alternate DNS proxy source, as it would explain why the traffic is subjected to the international speeds and not getting great local speeds.

Is there something else you feel our support agent should be doing to identify the route cause, or help to resolve this for you? If so I'll make it happen.

I believe the agent in question asked the right questions (didn't assume) and is honestly trying to help you to ensure that you're rather picking up local sources for the data you're trying to get a hold of.

Hi necuno,

There honestly isn't a need to post speed test after speed test in this thread from various sources. We accept you are having an issue, and are trying to help you on the support desk. We also cannot repeat it enough that there is an international issue, and we've posted the time-frames for resolution for this now as well, as well as kept you in the loop along the way.

We accept that your Afrihost international speed test will be different right now. That much has been established, and it won't assist us to resolve anything for you, I promise.

We accept that you have a problem. Please let us help you.

I'll pm you rather seeing that this is going in a direction I don't like... Thanks.

// counts to 10.

Sorry if I somehow missed it. But when is the international link expected to be fixed? My netflix and NZB is perfect but gaming is lagging like hell.

The installation is in progress as we speak. All work in London as been completed. Once installation is complete, configuration begins, then testing, then integrating and testing with the shapers. Over the course of the next week speeds will begin to improve to international destinations.

Stopping & starting the steam download has caused it to switch to a local server.

Okay, that could still indicate a routing issue on our side, so it has been escalated for investigation. Can you send us the specific details (game in question, time it happened, etc) so that I can send this on?

Already sent a mail with IPs. Games...seems to be all of them. Sorry don't really have any usable data beyond what was sent.

Its switching between local & intl servers every couple of mins. Never seen that before...

Is this not a p2p server?

I've now:
1. Set to use ISP DNS from OpenDNS
2. Disconnect and reconnect to ISP
3. Flush and re-register DNS
4. Remove blob

Results: (Though I'm sceptical, will see how this holds out)

Glad things are looking better there necuno.

If you have any issues please send it through to support and either Paul or I will look at them directly. I may not be around on the forum this evening and our support guys clock off at 4pm on weekends.

Will do. Thanks!

No steam isn't p2p driven. Its switching between local servers (hosted by SA ISPs) and servers on the akamai CDN.

We really need to employ some gamers here. I'll set aside a separate pizza and energy drink budget for this if anyone is interested. :D

Let me share with you some more data: this is the exchange connecting Noordhoek:

Noordhoek_exchange.PNG

Last night I was still calibrating the algorithms to exclude testing latency from the equation. I got this right at about 3am this morning as you can see from the above. Now we start to get some proper exchange performance data. As you can see, from about 8:30am in Noordhoek the exchange gets busy and response times increase. In fact they double. This is data one can work with to rule out issues, or spot issues. We also have access to the raw data for analysis, so I can tell you exactly how your exchange was performing last night at 5pm, for example, if you've subscribed to our trial.

This means that we can actually rule out the exchange as well as pick up issues. It's a better quality of support in our opinion.

Looking at that negative 16.5ms ping, the opponents will be killed even before the've decided to play. :p

What is the IP of CW's DNS server(s)?

A DNS server addresses IP address can change over time so it is preferable to let DHCP handle that for you. But the current DNS address showing on my system is
Primary 196.41.124.10
Secondary 196.41.124.11
