Performance is unfortunately still very sluggish on most services apart from basic browsing, loading up image heavy pages struggles to the point where switching accounts is faster, props on the Twitch performance though.

Cloning a Git-repo at 30 kbps :(

So here's a whole new level in tech support challenge, I'm in Cape Town, kids are in Jozi with no internet, sorry CW, I can't tell you if my modem lights are flashing or not :D

Is the phone giving a dial tone and are there any other lights that are flashing? It could be the line that is giving problems and if it is damaged then the connection wont be good at all.

/sigh

that is indeed a challenge and a webcam is the answer

Webcams don't work without Internets

Superstition! Myth! Black magic!

Just have to throw in an extra :D for good effect ...! But yeah same sentiment as the rest of the posters. I see the cybersmart notification said they will be installing and testing up to the 5th of this month so I expect there to be inconsistency until at least the 5th.

Get told by support now that there is packet loss at my exchange, that is why my speed is so slow??? Then why do I get more than triple the speed on nntp when using Afrihost, Webafrica or the temp IS account less than a week ago? Please stop playing the blame game and tell us EXACTLY what is going on? People are getting tired of all the excuses and promises being made and if this continues, unfortunately you guys will get a bad name before you've even started... :-( I'm trying to remain positive that things will come right, but it's getting harder and harder to stay that way as the weeks roll by.

Hi I think there is a bit of a miscommunication here and I've taken the ticket. The support data which I've got in front of me is that there is packet loss at the exchange point which has a domino effect on things and the broadly stated network upgrade process - with a August 5th ETA currently as the ultimate finalization point -could therefore affect you more severely. This is why our CT customers didn't require temporary accounts at all whereas the Gauteng customers in the main were adversely affected - a single variable that can kick in and be a problem.

One of the real challenges that it exists is that if somebody is told "exactly what is going on" such as "we are seeing packet loss at point X" we are publicly accused of playing the blame game. The ticket remains open and is sitting in the investigation stage but feedback - as a transparency mechanism - was provided.

I'm finding that I'm getting full line speed - 440KBps - on everything local, including YouTube. But anything international is sub 150KBps.

Thanks Paul, appreciate the feedback.

Too late. Will be calling you dad soon.

You're supposed to be providing tech support, not chatting her up. :p

On a serious note, my thinking is that whatever was causing the erratic performance has finally given up the ghost?

Guys does this upgrade touch the ESRs at all?
to the best of my knowledge those ESRs where traffic enters the upstreams network are affected but on the whole ESRs around country are part of a Telkom upgrade process

I can try to find out more if you'd like although the jist of things is no this isn't an ESR thingymabob
