Crystal Web (NEW ISP) ADSL Feedback

Had the odd issue yesterday but turns out was a telkom network issue in the local area. For the rest account has been brilliant for the last week. So big thank you to DJ and Paul.

So since 4AM getting assigned a 10.x.x.x IP address which *obviously* won't work.

Using my old CW account, I get greeted by:
Please Note: if you system directs you automatically to this page your ADSL user has been capped, this mean you have used all your ADSL bandwidth.

You can easily add more by just contacting your ADSL provider. Ask your ISP that you want to do a top up.

Capping ~ Please note we do not monitor what you do or where you go, but how much traffic you produce in your use of the Internet. Your ADSL usage is determined by all traffic you generated by a given username and includes the upload (sending), download (receiving) as well as network and protocol overheads. The same process applies to both the shaped and unshaped service.

What's a Gig ~ In short, it is the amount of Bytes or size of a file or application on the Internet. This is approximately 300 songs, 1500 average MS Word or MS Excel documents or about 10,000 e-mails without attachments.

Cap period ~ Capping is determined over a given period, normally a calendar month. As such, monthly usage is accumulated during the period and reset according to your service subscription. At the beginning of each period the usage tracker is reset and any restrictions that might have been imposed would be lifted.

What is a cap ~ A cap is the amount of traffic or Gigs per service a subscriber may use or consume over a given period, and is determined by the product you have subscribed to initially. An example would be 2, 3 or 4 Gig. Capping has no relation to the ADSL speed that you have chosen.

When your usage based service cap is reached ~Once your cap threshold has been achieved you may purchase further Gigs of usage to maintain unrestricted service

Nice. Once again, internet-less...

Thank you Chris, with regards to the RFC 1819 it seems the usage capacity has been reached that we allocated you on the unshaped experience, I'm really sorry for this I'm going to send you another account shortly

So our uncapped accounts, are NOT uncapped afterall...

I haven't even used allot!

I'm sorry, but if THAT is considered high usage, then I'd rather just move on. Sick and tired of these games, instabilities, and excuses.

Dude, we knew those accounts had an "expected" limit.... and also that there was no way they would give us a completely uncapped unshaped account, they were highcap unshaped accounts.

but looking at your graph, it seems that you did a fair amount of sustained 8mbps transfers, that would chew through data at a rate of knots.

Dude, chill-your-lax...The unshaped is just being tested. We have all been provisioned a certain amount of data for the unshaped test. You have obviously reached the limit. Mail support and they will prob just put you back on the standard shaped uncapped.

This was explained from the get go....

They were testing unshaped capped accounts for us(for the trial period)...also they allocated 400gbs to me...and someone on 4mb linked they had 200gbs....so.....sorry but you can check how much you used on the portal....also its not like they capped you, you just don't qualify for unshaped with your usage.

(if you can screenshot http://usage.uncappedbuss.net/ that would help...because it seems like you didn't use that much)

no wait i did the math bro...you went crazy on the week 31 period......you do know that 1 solid day of downloading is 81gbs right? coz that's what it looks like you did...if i saw someone doing 81gbs a day i throttle the **** out of them.....that'd take you from 5 stars to 1 star on IS business...

your sick of ISPs "capping" you, i'm sure they are sick of people downloading the internet...i was a huge offender last month and they didn't shape me, but i EXPECTED to be shaped.

It may look like you didn't download much but if you had been downloading full speed for a whole week it would be 576gbs(2.41tb/month) ...what your currently paying is in the same price range as 300gbs capped...

Go figure. 10Mbps account and 200GB...

Data allowance 200 GB
Percentage used 106.225%
Usage 212.4 GB
Predicted usage 365.9 GB
Online Yes
IP address 10.206.15.136

I *specifically* recall this was raised earlier (when they released the accounts) and it was specifically said the 200GB is just a reference - don't worry about it, we won't cut you off... Yeah, raait. I'm sorry, but that is FAR from heavy usage.

Anyways, let me get out of here... I'm done with being a test subject and having one issue after the next. I do unfortunately require a stable internet connection, and CW is just not working for me at this point in time. Once they're done twiddling and tweaking and chopping and changing, I may reconsider. For now, I've had enough of this.

They gave you a much lower cap than me which i find strange......but just so you know its been 12 days so your true projected usage is 543gbs(your doing an average of 20gbs a day).
also looks like you increased your downloads alot when the switch happened when they asked you not to, they even said schedule downloads
Capture.PNG
that is not a scheduled download...

They said im considered a high user and im sitting on 107gbs (half of you) and yes im on 10mb/s

geez i thought they were kidding when they said some people were doing 100gbs a day lol now it seems highly plausible

might not seem high to you but you sure as hell are not sustainable on unshaped. Not downloading anything for several days then downloading all at once is an ISPs worst nightmare.

No, some customers were using in excess of 100GBs per day, so a very generous limit of the unshaped experience was added so that we didn't have to monitor everyone's connections at all times. Thereafter you move back to the shaped experience.

I'm looking at your account now and will follow up with you directly.

Some people obviously ignored Shauns email about using these accounts responsibly. Hopefully CW consider the accounts on an individual basis and don't change all of us because of those "special needs" customers.

If you look at that graph he linked he was one of them......if you don't know how to read a graph it looks like he didn't use much but it clearly shows him downloading nearly 24hrs/day at line speed at least 2 days

Some days I need to do extensive testing, other days I don't. Some days I use allot of bandwidth, other days, I don't. I don't feel that there's anything wrong with that. I run a business and I will do what is required to ensure that my business remains optimally operational. That is why I purchased uncapped accounts to begin with, and I will never, ever, consider a capped account, regardless of how high that cap is.

The fact remains, I am paying them for a *uncapped* account. I did not *ask* to be put on unshaped bandwidth - they choose to do so out of their own free will (frankly, no one was asked). When they offered the temp IS accounts, I actually declined to make use of it, as I didn't need it and thus, I saved them money.

Now I am being punished for their decision - even though, they are MORE than happy to shape protocols when network usage is high on their side - that's a bit like having your bread buttered on both sides isn't it? Instead of giving everyone unshaped and uncapped bandwidth, why was the issue with the network (and qos) not *fixed* rather than *avoiding* the problem?

Again, going back - this was yet again a band aid, that was applied to fix a completely separate issue. Again, the band aid just fell off... Now a new band-aid will just be applied again by giving me a different / new account (again)... How long until that band aid comes off, again? Now I get a new account, and I get spammed yet again by more emails from CW that they can't stop due to a "bug"

With all due respect DJ... I'm not interested in another band aid, or another 'hack'. If my usage is unacceptable to CW, tell me, and let me move on to where it would be acceptable.

It's been (over) three months... At some point in time, CW (or their vendors / suppliers) need to start to *fix* problems, and stop applying band aids and quick fixes.

Is something broken that they are trying to bandaid? Because im not having any issues...
they arn't saying your usage is too high, they are saying its too high for unshaped.
If you have a business why not just move to business uncapped? why are you on a home account complaining your business is suffering...
also what field are you in that you need to download 100gbs a day....that's a metric ton of **** to download....there is no way that that is simply "work"....

if you work really does sometimes use 100gb/s a day then they might not qualify it as "abuse" but i sure as hell do.personal backlog....sure that is excessive but understandable, but if your job requires you to transfer 100gb/s a day regularly then you belong on a business account end of story.

Firstly, I don't download 100GB a day... Go read up a bit... Secondly, can you please point me to their web site where their products has been defined, and what the costs thereof is? OH wait - it doesn't exist. It just gets delayed and delayed and delayed. Lastly, I have told DJ in private numerous times I would be more than happy to pay for some kind of business account when it is released, I have to date, not heard a word about it. So yes, I think you just need to please get your ducks in a row a little bit.

Have to say that I agree with savage. Refer back to the original email sent;

"...we’re going to UNSHAPE your internet for the month once the upgrade has completed. Yes, over the next 48 hours we will be transitioning you over from an uncapped, shaped account, to an unshaped, uncapped experience, because you’re awesome and we love you!" JUST DON'T USE IT!!

The email did ask that you don't change usage patterns, but those had been blown out the water with the issues anyway. Savages usage certainly doesn't indicate that he's downloading 24/7. Suddenly there's emails going out that you're not within the "norm" but you're never an abuser, yeah right!

I was upfront initially about what I wanted and how much my household uses and on what. Now I'm "outside the norm" and can't get a straight answer about happens should I exceed the allotted 200 cap imposed.
