I understand that fine im no where near hitting mine. i like the idea but the bottom line is he did hit it and he literally got blocked from the internet without warning(his perspective)...should he have been allowed to download that much? no but you should have had at least noticed he used half his predicted usage in less than 6days and said "hang on lets make sure he doesnt get cut off when he reaches it."
it's not that what your doing is a problem, the problems is you should have some mechanism to notify you or the customer of excessive usage...(on the unshaped accounts)
at the very least their should have been some sort way to access the crystal web website. i can only assume the same thing happens to your capped members :(
@savage they didn't cut you off you just used up all the GBs they allocated to you.

savage and I have a personal relationship, so I made an error in not putting him on our CRM system at the time (for various reasons that shall not be discussed in the public domain). Hence a notification email was not sent to him. That's my fault and I accept responsibility for that.

A notification email is going out again today by the way.

Ok, our understanding of the term "cut off" is obviously different but let's agree to disagree (If I can't even reach my SP's web page, then IMHO I see that as "cut off"). The comments you made hits the nail on the head though... At the very least, being able to access support to discuss the issue without the need to dig how deep even to find an alternative account to use, would have been appreciated yes. Even a "contact us within 12 hours or else," email would have been better that what has transpired.

I see. so there is a system he just was not on it?
if you had explained that earlier would have stopped alot of people jumping to conclusions(im a professional conclusion jumper.)
people make mistakes that's understandable, if you had just said it was an isolated problem that is unlikely to happen again it would have been enough :P

OOH! Now, *that* I can understand, and that may also actually explain *allot* in terms of historic issues too. Didn't realise I was special ;)

Please explain allot.
Allot - giving out.
The explanation allots information in terms of his earlier issues.

This is a situation where I'm unsure if it's bad spelling or whether it's bad grammar.

A lot
The term a lot is the opposite of a little. As a noun, lot means a large extent, a large amount, or a large number. As an adverb, lot means to a great extent or to a great degree. It nearly always appears in the form a lot.

Allot comes from "Allot Communications" where I've worked with their NetEnforcer products in my past :) I blame a combination of bad grammar, being Dutch, and having a word that for some strange reason stuck to me that I need to forget about.

A lot can also refer to a piece of ground, a lot owned by you. :p

I have a savage personal relationship... I was like , but then I calmed and reread it :o:D

Or if you own most of it, a lot of a lot.

Or mostly own most of it, a lot of a lot of a lot :)

And if it all takes place there: A lot of a lot of a lot of a lot!

Edit: I can do this all day. Quite a lot really.

...We ran prediction models, and allocated a very healthy unshaped experience for everyone, in excess of all previous month's usage or in excess at least of predicted usage for the month. We honestly believe that's really fair. But if everyone sees this as a target and nails their lines to full capacity, firstly we have terrible data to work with in terms of unshaped, and secondly we have to move everyone back over to uncapped accounts for the month at a further expense to us...
I just did a check and I might be have been well on my way to becoming an abuser. My expected usage is well under 300GB of my average from the last two months with CW. And that's with a standard deviation of just ~12GB. If I don't "change the way you [-]use[/-]I the internet", I can easily see myself being classified as an abuser. Especially now that that downloads will now run close to max speed. Time to enable the scheduler. :erm:
I guess my previous usage broke the prediction models. :(
But don't worry, I am playing fair with the new account.

Let me put it into perspective then.
On Saturday for the first time in a while in fact the first time since being on CW my son decided to play Black ops with a friend.
I was playing CS:GO at the time, I have never experienced this on another ISP
Once he got into game, the gaming latency shot up and I was kicked from the CS server.

Hulu HD streaming is not possible anymore.
My son has to watch Youtube on 240p or CS is unplayable.

All of which is more than possible on a competitive ISP.
And that is why I like a shaped account. So I don't need to worry about QoS, scheduling downloads, or rate limiting.

Aaaand I'm moving to an area where telkom has "issues", i.e. cable theft. Bummer

At least I will have had 3 weeks of awesome internet

geez dude, i am not defending them, im not even with them so calm down. You cant play games and download same time, PERIOD

I said I can do it on another isp.
Do you even game?

You've basically said I can't do what I've been doing for years.
Go figure.

Yes you can. I don't have issues doing that. Also, just set up bandwidth for specific traffic if you are having issues.

Once again my point is missed.

My son watches 240p on youtube while I battle to game.
How is that acceptable?
I can change to Afrihost and he can stream 420p plus while I game with very low local pings.
