Sorry all PC purists

http://www.strategyinformer.com/new...-will-be-multi-platform-no-more-pc-exclusives

In the man's own words:

“It is certainly. We are suffering currently from the huge piracy that is encompassing Crysis. We seem to lead the charts in piracy by a large margin, a chart leading that is not desirable. I believe that’s the core problem of PC Gaming, piracy. To the degree PC Gamers that pirate games inherently destroy the platform. Similar games on consoles sell factors of 4-5 more. It was a big lesson for us and I believe we wont have PC exclusives as we did with Crysis in future. We are going to support PC, but not exclusive anymore.”

No offence to you doobiwan, but I coudn't care less.

Piracy is the main reason PC games aren't as ridiculously overpriced as console games. So go piracy! Oh, and of course every pirate copy is a lost sale, so they must have lost $999million by now, lol sure.

There will always be PC games as long as there are PCs, period.

Agreed!
I buy the games I think deserve my money.

Imagine how much money you'd spend on games you ended up not playing after a week of paying for it... people would be broke!

I bought my Special Edition of Crysis ;)

surely crysis sold a good few million on pre release

how did piracy hit such a massive game?

most ppl pre ordered crysis and did not pirate it

Blah, I bet World of Warcraft is the most pirated game out there, does Blizzard lose any money? I think not.

Exclusively PC game companies need to look at what they actually provide. PC Games excel in certain areas [online content+mulitplayer/mods/addons/user customizability] , and is open to piracy if it doesn't at least delve into those areas.

If you're gonna make a locked-down single player game , with multiplayer as an after thought , not providing tools to create mods etc etc. Then yes , you might as well put it on a PS3/Xbox .

+1 on all accounts :D

Sorry diablous, stupid example that you used.

Yes, people can 'pirate' WoW but to play it properly you need to buy these stupid monthly things.
And once you play WoW online, you don't wanna play on LAN's etc so yeah.

I don't think WoW cares about making money off the actual game itself, they make money off the prepaid monthly cards.

Dude, read your own post and the rest of my post, you completely missed the point i made. My point was companies that makes money in PC Games is NOT trying to make "money off the physical CD/DVD" .

In other words, as i've said : Blizzard is exclusively PC and is unaffected by piracy because they provide a service INDEPENDENT of their physical DVD/CD . <---- That is the only way if you want to remain exclusively on the PC [otherwise why be on the PC in the first place??? ] . Crytek is obviously not doing anything justifying them -only- being on the PC, their last game was a engine-demo single player game, nothing more.

In short: A company that cry about piracy on the PC is doing it wrong!

So yea, if Crytek plans to churn out single player shooters with a little bit of multiplayer WITHOUT providing a BattleField type of online experience, they are better off on the console and porting back to PC [like with GTA] .

Personally I believe they just hyping about piracy... look at COD4... how many people pirate the game only to go buy it legally afterwards? why? it's a brillent title! Awesome MP playability! I gladly went to CNA and forked out R299 for it! and R299? compared to PS3, xbox games @ R600 I think it's a steal!

An excuse to cash in on the console market. At least be honest about it instead of trying to cover it up with the tired old piracy excuse.

I think I've only bought one original in the last 3 years. Brian Lara Cricket 2005. It had sooo many ffffing bugs that it was virtually unplayable. What a waste of R400 bucks. Pirating FTW!!!!

I won't go as far as agreeing with you on the "Pirating FTW!!!!" comment, but I will admit, the prices CONSOLE games cost, I'd def agree, PC games are still affordable but having said that, I will not just go and buy a game because it gets good reviews, reviews are all commercially based now.

Look at Hellgate London, that got amazing reviews, the game is FAWKING a mess!
Bio whatever its called, that too etc etc etc.

The only game I've bought lately that still keeps me very happy and was worth every cent is Call of Duty 4.

Heh heh, you boys are funny.

Actually fishfly that's a fantastic example. Infinity Ward has been tracking the number of pirate versions connecting to CoD4 servers and they were mortified, it's something like 10:1 pirate to legit. Considering the PC version sold under a million units and the console versions sold over 8 million, there's no question why their efforts will be console focused from now on.

And as far as Crysis goes, it sold only 100'000 units in it's first week, and is one of the most pirated games on on the planet. Compare that to RSV2, a mediocre game at best, that came out in slow March, and the 360 version alone sold over 600'000 units.

So basically, you guys keep waving that Jolly Roger High and proud until the only thing you're standing on is a pile of generic MMO's. And the Sims.

Yawn. Same old tired bullsh*t...

Show me one shred of objective proof that a pirated copy would have been a sale otherwise.

Icyrus, that's irrelevant.

Consoles sales are outdoing PC sales 10:1, the Developers go where the money is.

Ah but how are basketball sales doing compared to american football sales?

Ivan, see my previous post. They can't count the "immeasurable negative fact" and can only look at the real values, and those sales figures are driving them.
