CSGO Sticky thread

So I've been wondering whether CS:GO teaches any skills that could be useful in a real-life combat situation. The safe lines, team communication and lethality of bullets (as opposed to other games where you're pretty invulnerable) makes me think yes.

This story I just found, however, doesn't have any professional soldiers listing CS:GO amongst their picks (and they should know right?): http://theconversation.com/how-the-...beautiful-video-games-to-train-soldiers-73826

Any thoughts on that?

Thanks. How long did it take you to rank up to GE/SMFC?

The lowest that I have ever ranked was Nova 3. When I completed my initial 10 comps I was ranked at Nova 4, I then went through the ranks to LEM where I on average ranked LE at my high. Then came the new rebalanced ranking scheme, lost one match ranked at LE and dropped 2 places to MGE, lost another and dropped to MG2, stopped playing. When I returned, I was automatically deranked to Nova 3. The highest I have since been is DMG where I play in unbalanced ranks amongst the MyBb humble bundle. I guess, on solo, I might get back to LE in about 3 days. Currently I am MGE. I need Prod to carry me.

I had around 250 hours, true game time, when I hit LEM.

Article nailed it for you. Soldiers use it as entertainment, not training.

“The idea of us training using these games is a bit of a [disaster],” one said. “What the U.S. seeks to achieve through the use of these games is not entirely within their control. It might be a cheap way of getting us involved … but it’s hardly ‘training.’”

Another called first-person shooters “more like brainwashing than anything.”

“But you have to be pretty stupid to buy into all this,” he added.

Lol!!! Probably only 'limited' communication.

Back in the day I used to play America’s Army a lot, it was better than playing CoD. They had some real army guys on there, voice communication was etter. Rough bunch, verbally.

Why don't you play DGL? Surely you will be able to compete against the big teams if you are in a decent team?

1) You need a team
2) You need the time
3) Adventure games are better than FPS, besides I am 10x better at strategy games.

I know many people in our local esports circles. There was a time where I was involved, but not as a player. Currently I and others are working on something to cater to those who needs exposure.

In SA, our esports organisations are a bit closed, we need more openness.

The guy which told me to play CSGO is a local pro, he also taught me the basics.

I use Vodacom FTTH and have never got anything more then 5ms ping on CT servers.

Brag about it why don't you ,but I think I have a problem. It's probably worse than alcoholism or drug abuse, I am seriously considering moving to someplace with fibre since most of my town does not have fibre.
I need those ping rates. Although I also probably need a monitor that does 1ms delay and 144hz to really benefit fully.

Anyone else had issues with microsofts latest security patch and their games frame rates? I had to uninstall the update or I was getting 30fps instead of +200.

Haven't had any issues with FPS. If you are using nVidia, I know there was a recent driver update, possibly get that if you're not on it already and see if it makes a difference?

I dunno I updated my NVidia drivers but it was all my games FPS messing around, even made sure the Windows new game mode was off, but its defiantly the new patch if I uninstall its back to normal.

Hmmm interesting. I know that turning game mode on and off isn't simple as it should be. Forget the link but a quick google will find it for you. Just remember there was a thing where it was turned on but wasn't actually on.

Perhaps turning it off hasn't actually taken effect. Something to check.

Here's a CS:GO question I've been wondering about for a while: is there any way to make it easier to get into CS:GO? To ensure max FPS I have to always disable my antivirus (with its stupid 'how long' prompt), switch to performance mode (in advanced display settings) and close anything else that's running in the background (like OneDrive and Samsung Magician for my SSD).

One idea is to create a new user profile on my laptop, maybe I can disable all that stuff just for that user profile so that when I log in I'm good to game immediately :) How do you guys do it?

Honestly. Better hardware. You're at rock bottom as far as that goes, to be frank. I know because I play on my laptop with the same specs. When I got my new PC, I noticed the difference. It's insane.

Other than that, disabling just about everything will help, also what resolution do you play at?

My PC runs 24/7, I double-click the executable and voila!

me too...if I want to go next level, I sometimes double-click the Discord shortcut also :)

My PC has a Plex server on it and that's where my downloads go so I leave it on all the time (so I can use the Roku upstairs or HTPC in the lounge).

Only after being forced to.
