CSGO Sticky thread

Well we won't have a lack of games that's for sure, R6S Year 5 comes out tomorrow, COD: Warzone comes out tomorrow, Doom comes out the 20th, Valorant comes out in probably 3 months.
Seeing the Quake like elements in Doom Eternal I wonder whether the multiplayer proponents will try to emulate Quake Tournament. Seriously, Bethesda can pull a good move here at giving the game a competitive multiplayer component. Fast paced action is missing in the FPS e-sports world other than console Halo.

Overwatch sort of but no one likes Overwatch.

In games like Unreal Tournament and Quake, it is all about movement, speed and most importantly your aim. The only abilities here are powerups and booster pickups which are all based around map control and timing. Yes, it is reaction-based shooters.

Not many people know it but Quake was an ‘esports’ back in the late 1990s, and that evolved into QuakeCon in 1999.

I really like Quake Champions, but it was mostly abandoned and played by a niche group.

Overwatch didn’t quite capture the reaction shooting mechanics, and the abilities and ultimate are the means (or supers) to the end, and in a game like Overwatch (and assumedly Valorant) it will be build-up where everyone toggles within the same window.

Overwatch is still big in parts Europe and in Asia, and Blizzard will push Overwatch 2 to also take on the MOBA genre or so I assume with the new push maps and mechanics (because Blizzard sure couldn't stop about how the engine evolved).

That is what Diabotical is trying to fill.

Is that true though? I'm desperately looking for an online game. I feel I missed the boat with CSGO and it's too late to jump in now.

R6S: Are there actually local server/players?

COD Warzone: Not enough local players to even fill up a 30v30 map, no way a 100 player BR is gonna see any matches.

Valorant is getting a lot of negative feedback, that game might be DOA.

Doom: I don't see this going anywhere.

Where is everyone?? I remember back in the day TF2 had dozens of active local servers. It's like local people just stopped playing online games.

Never too late for CSGO... It's one of those games that rewards you for the time you put in.

Yeah, and most players are 500+ hours ahead of me. It's definitely too late. I'll get flamed to **** for not knowing everything.

I played a TON of classic CS and 1.6 back in the day, but GO is simply out of my reach.

Only tools flame people for being new to the game. Forget them - mute them in-game if you have to.

I also played early on (1.3 to a bit of Source) and then stopped around 2010 or so. Only got back into it in 2017. CS is a game anyone can pick up and enjoy at their level of skill. It's not as brutal as arena fps's , not as unintuitive as games with ultimates and not as gimmicky as R6. There's a reason people leave and come back to it all the time - it just works.

Play casual till you're level 21 (or however free Prime works now) - I'm sure you'll have found your feet by then. Check out Warowl's channel on YouTube for noob-friendly entertaining content - he's funny as well as being good at teaching the game.

COD:MW costs R1000, Warzone is free, it's going to take a week or so for everyone to download it but we'll see.

To be fair, Blackout was also free and that was dead within a week locally.

Hmmm, I don't think so. That might be a good point.

The PC gaming master race can brag as much as they want, but in the long run it is the console guys keeping the servers busy. Now with a slow move to remote gaming, crossplay will become the norm in online multiplayer gaming.
