A friend of mine is connected to CTWUG, but she also has Internet via Telkom Mobile (Huaweu B593 router permanently on). Every time she wants to connect to the WUG, she has to connect the Ethernet cable, which is a schlep when she sits at her table, and the cable/POE injector is on her kitchen counter. Is there a way to connect the WUG to her 3G router, and configure it in such a way that she can access the WUG and Internet simultaneously via a single wifi connection to the router?

If you can plug the routerboard into her 3G router and give me access to her routerboard I will do the config.

Basically I will add a dhcp client (actually having a static IP in her 3G routers subnet will be better) onto the routerboad and add a masquarade firewall rule and some port forwarding rules. ie. she will NAT CTWUG traffic.

If her 3G router supports static routes we can add the static route there to route wug traffic 172.16.0.0/12 to her routerboard otherwise we can add the static route on her pc.

I will be happy to assist even if we have to use teamviewer.

Awesome, thanks! I will PM you as soon as I get time, and find out if you are available for assistance.

I am looking to get connected myself, but it seems this is not a simple quick process. :o I have plotted a node, and contacted those within my apparent line of sight, but it seems I may have to wait a long time for any response :o

Guys can you put me in contact with someone that can assist me to CTWUG and Internet.

Thanks in advance:)

Are there people that are willing to set this up for you? My networking knowledge is limited and I would like to pay someone to do this kind of thing for me.

Out of interest where are you in CT?

I am in Vredekloof, I got connected quite a while ago thanks to the area admins.

You need to confirm with the area admins as to what equipment you should acquire. Some highsites only allow MIMO equipment, while others are not too strict. THe best bet is to join the CTWUG forums.

Also remember, this is a "best effort" kind of thing. These people have normal day jobs and have their own lives, and do this for no compensation, so it might not happen as quickly as you want it to.

On the computer do this

route -p add {WUG IP Range} mask {netmask} {gateway IP}

eg

route -p add 10.0.0.0 mask 255.0.0.0 192.168.0.1

I have tried all of the above options, but in the end it was much better to get a RB750 and use that as my main router at home.
It dials my ADSL, does DHCP, allow me to VPN back home from work, ect...
