Cancel your bandwidth use with telkom.

Use only telkom line rental and get your bandwidth at the best prices over the next few months, as ISPs start dropping prices.

"Can I still subscribe to DSL from Telkom and get my Internet account from an ISP of my choice."

If you do not require a single Broadband offering such as do Broadband at a discounted price for access and Internet, then you can still subscribe to one of the DSL offerings, whether it be:

DSL Up to 384kbps,
DSL Up to 512kbps or
DSL Up to 4096kbps

and get your Internet account from your ISP of choice.

Just confirmed with telkom 0800375375, that you can cancel the voice option for your telephone line and use only the dsl option. Although that does not mean you pay less for the R131 Line Rental, it merely saves you from any costs related to someone using a phone on the line.

Are you serious? Is this confirmed? Are Telkom really moving into the 21st Century?

Wow tell us more, Where are the savings?

um, if he what he said is true, it is no long necessary to have a voice portion to your ADSL rental. That is a savings of nearly R200 for most people who have never needed the voice portion.

Maybe we get lucky and this is true. I'll use the savings to upgrade to 4 meg if its true.

Yeah, I realise but I cannot see the site description refering to that, maybe I must compare it with my own subscription/account.

None of the links provided or the quote shown confirm this. I'm fearing it may just be a Telkom employee misunderstanding what was being asked.... surely RPM, or someone else with their ear to the ground, would have mentioned this.

The part in bold just says you can get bandwidth from another isp, it says nothing about voice or line rental.

Telkom will never offer a service like that.
Yep, even if they wanted to (which they dont), they couldn't as their systems are so intertwined. For example how would you log a fault, your circuit number (line identifier) is your telephone number.

Ok, spoke to them again. The voice option can be removed and one needs to phone 10219 to get the price.

The person said that it should be cheaper than paying the Residential line rental (exchange connection) at R124,20 and the Fast DSL 384k for R152.00 together.

Telkom says this:

DO BROADBAND PACKAGES
Do Broadband rates remain unchanged. You still get our entry level Do Level 1 for only R199pm, that comes with a DSL line,...

http://www.telkom.co.za/general/tariffs/pdf/Rates_2009_Print_Advert_54x10.pdf

and then this:

Excludes line rental, voice and fax call charges.
The local data applies after the initial 1GB data has reached its limit.

http://www.do.co.za/broadband/index.html#/products/

So are they, or are they not including the line rental?

I think you're getting a bit confused here. The DSL line rental and analog rental are 2 different things. It was always possible to only pay for the DSL line rental from Telkom which was R152 for 384k and get your bandwidth from another ISP. You still need to pay for analog rental for your telephone line which is R124 at the moment.
