Just need to have a little rant. Asked Cybersmart to upgrade my line to 4MB about 2 weeks ago. Since then it has gone down from 384 to 256. Phone Telkom - can't help, need to phone Cybersmart, phone Cybersmart - can't help, waiting for Telkom!!

Ouch. Sadly, this is one of the biggest problems with one price accounts. Cybersmart blame telkom, telkom blame cybersmart. You pull your hair out.

Have they given you a log reference number? Cos then you can logon to their website and track the status of your line from day to day. If it looks like they not doing anything, you can just call and cr@p on them. When they did my line I used to logon daily and I could see that they were calling Telkom every morning.

(btw, not so easy to cut out the middleman - Telkom line rental is more expensive than Cyber.)

No reference given. I go onto their site regularly to check - rarely see any updates, and when they do post anything there it seems to be cryptic and largely irrelevant. Latrest update from 11 Feb looked like some kind of troubleshooting script:

"THERE ARE NO PROBLEMS WITH THE LINE AND IT SHOULD CONNECT. Push enter to check signal strength and attenuation. Weak signal could cause line to drop as could high attenuation valuesk BUT in all likelihood the configuration on the router is wrong. Try the following in the followin g order 1.Unlock location 2.Unblacklist location 3.Recreate the port 4.Try with [email protected] account 5.Try with telkom guest account 6.MAKE SURE THE DOWNLOAD ......."

There is a problem with this lines situation. Requested a upgrade. Took 7 days. But when I was with telkom it was instantly in the past. Called Telkom to ask whats happening they said call my isp. Called them they said waiting for telkom.

So either the ISPs are lying to us, or Telkom provides a different level of service to its direct customers as opposed to its ISP customers?

Try connecting with just the line connected to the router (no telephone pots nothing).
Then try and connect and verify your line again. (you did a self install right?)
This type problem is not cybersmart but telkom and it could be that during the line upgrade they could have done something - who knows!?
Maybe call cybersmart and ask them to reset the port.
What gives you the idea I had to do this before?

There is a special person to phone at Telkom when you have your line with another ISP, its like corporate services or something like that.

The bottom line is that your ISP can't do **** until Telkom get off their a$$e$, for that reason I still see Telkom as the problem and so I would rather have a real ISP.

I also wanted a 4 meg upgrade and eventually when I got hold of some one at Telkom they said that when there are enough people they will do it, they just tell Cybersmart that the order is pending...they just keep it like that forever, not much you can do about that !

You should ask for a refund on the circuit price during the time its been problematic. Telkom takes so much money they can give a bit back.

If I had a R10 for every time a public phone just took my money I would be very rich... So give em hell!!!

Call Telkom and ask to speak to a Techie, say you have made a request for the line to be upgrade but your router has not shown any change ask for him to upgrade starting at the 4096 profile. I did this the other day because i was unhappy that I am only syncing at 2Megs. He tried the 3 Meg profile but I only managed 2466kb/s so he put me on the 2meg again. He then logged a fault with the copper or something. Very helpful guy
