I hope no one minds but I am posting this thread for anyone else out there who is or may be in a similar situation i was recently, that of what is the best/well priced basic adsl out there.

after doing the reaserch and reading the forums, specifically the myadsl forums, i got my 192k adsl line with a 3gb cybersmart account yesterday.

It has only been one day but so far I am more than happy. I can surf faster than I can at my workplace on our IS adsl line (which is a lot larger than 192k), I got a average download rate of 20-25kb a second and i happily played CS Source online last night for an hour without any issues.

If you are on a budget, this seems to be the way to go.

The above sentiment has already been posted on other topics in this forum, but i am creating this thread for a newbie (like me) who is going to simply type "cybersmart" into the search box of the forum to find out more.

I am also going to give periodic updates of how things are going for a couple of months. Just trying to spread the love.

And no, I dont work for cybersmart ;)

You are very lucky - the maximum download speeds for 192K is around 20-24kb a second. The average is around 16-20kb a second. The absolute maximum of 192K is 24kb a second.

Yes Psykro :-) I have been with cybersmart (3gb, 192) for almost 2 months now, and their service is realy good.

I also have an IS account for local content, but that gives problems every now and again, and when it does work, it's only fast after hours.

been with them for 6 months no issues...this has been said a few times on the forum all ready though..

yup no issues other than usual saix issues and uhm when the power went out ;)

well, looking at how things are going, probably I will be joining them too .. only question is, how long they will last! I was with OpenWeb, they increased their prices, now with AYCE, they are about to do the same ... Cybersmart will be probably another 2-3 months stunt and there you go again ... I am sick and tired, I just want an affordable internet connection were I don't have to check my traffic stats every 15 minutes !!!!!

I'm waiting patiantly for telkom to install ADSL. Also want to go with cybersmart. I notice in their terms and contitions they say:

7. If you subscribe to our ADSL service, you are required to cancel any other ADSL service you may have with any other ISP.

Don't they give you assels because of the second IS account or is there no way they can find out. Would like to ocationaly get openweb's 10day local for R99.

I'd never evah sign up with them. From their TOS:

2. You are required to give one months notice in writing when canceling and your account will be deleted on the 24th of the following month.

5. You are required to use the @cybersmart.co.za email address that comes free with your ADSL account

7. If you subscribe to our ADSL service, you are required to cancel any other ADSL service you may have with any other ISP.

They're just really dodgy AFIC... :/

I used Cybersmart, can't say anything bad about them, what I can say now is that, if Clause 7 (If you subscribe to our ..... ) was in place then, I would not have agreed to sign up with them.

It has absolutely NOTHING to do with an ISP what I do or don't do with other ISP's.

Yes that makes them look a bit "dodgy", besides that? they are as good as any SAIX ISP.

And yes, you can play rpg games, well, at least I did. (384 connection)

If you follow my advice you do so at your own risk. (Does that make what I have just said "dodgy"?)

Hi

The terms and conditions requires you to use the @cybersmart address to
qualify for this price, otherwise it will cost you an additional R45 per
month, so I will pretend I did not get the request.

Regards

Laurie

An Email I recieved when I asked them to forward the cybersmart email address.... That is really dodgy!!!

Cybersmart is one company I will never deal with. Everytime I post something about them, like now, I get threatening PM's from one of them. I cant believe anyone supports them.

They're like the "Apartheid ISP". They should change their name to: CyberPart or something...HAHA

Im probably going to be sued because of this post. Oh dear, wooow is me, what am I going to do!!!??

Are you serious about the threats? So Please bring them in the open.

Expose them or their mafia style business.

yesp cybersmars do seem to be offering the cheapest ADSL at the moment.

Also I've found on a regular basis that our high speed 1mb from work doesn't hold a candle to my slow 512k line at home.

You can play most RPG games on dialup. Compared to FPS games they're *extremely* ping tolerant.

Interesting to read some bad press about them for once. Can u elaborate? I was going to give them a go next month as well, but now am having second thoughts...

Since I am the only one from Cybersmart assigned to monitor and post to these forums and I have only responded twice as far as I recall and never to cable guy, I would also like to know who made these threatening remarks. In fact please be so kind as to post these threatening remarks here so perhaps I can address the guy who made them.

Furthermore, the reason that we have our restrictions is well documented at the bottom of our terms and conditions. We do not always enforce the terms as in nicvon's case and one would think leniency in this regard would not earn the remark "a bit dodgy".

With regards to being required to cancel your account with other ISP's I am afraid that I am the culprit who added this condition. When you get a call at 3am saying : "I cannot play my online card game and your adsl service is f%£$%£$%king piece of sh$£%$£%t" and it turns out that the problem is caused by a certain accellerator product from another ISP you might understand why this clause is included.

We are no fly-by-night company (even though our shoddy website may indicate such - this is being fixed by the way), we have been around since 1998, we have ATM infrastructure in place with SLA's as well as backup power (you will note we were not down during the power failures in Cape Town). Furthermore, we are the ony ISP to give you a price break on lower circuits speeds, we were one of the first ISP's to introduce "toping up" your account, we are the only ISP that allows you to elect to roll your topup over to the next month, we are the only ISP that offers a product where you can pay per Mb after your cap and then choose on the last day of the month whether it is cheaper to pay per Mb or topup, we are the only ISP that detects your circuit speed and we are the only ISP that offers you 3Gigs for R100 on the 192Kb circuit. All in all we are definitely a bit dodge
