Cybersmart ADSL

Email

Thanx Laurie for clearing up the email thing, it does make more sence now and that being said it is easier to understand and accept why you charge more for forwarding the email accounts. :)

from personal experience its once the session resets, and the amount that you go over the cap before you are cut off is subtracted as a percentage from the next few months allocation..

Really? Wow that is true hard-capping. Thats not cool man. Didnt know of many isps that deducted from next month's gigs if u go over this month. :(

yeh, but i'm paying the cheapest price in za for a 3gig package so i don't think its in my rights to complain about the loss of a few extra mb's here or there

Regards hard capping,
Most ISP's elect to disconnect you more and more frequently as your approach your cap.

i.e. if you have 2GB left your session gets reset ever 24Hrs, however if you only have 200MB left your session will reset every hour. (which can be an annoyance)

We give our clients the option to switch of the session resets, but that makes them liable for bandwidth over thier cap.

You'll find that almost all ISP's use one system or the other. It's unavoidable as the ISP has to pay for ALL the bandwitdh they do, so inorder to make a profit bandwidth control is vital.

So now that Telkom are abolishing the 192 line, and we all gonna get free upgrades to the 384 line, what is going to happen to Cybersmart's R100- 192 deal? Or is this gonna be the case:

Current cost:
- Line rental R87.05
- 192 ADSL R270.00
- ISP 192k R100
- Total R457.05

Proposed cost:
- Line rental R94.69
- 192/384 ADSL R245.00
- ISP 384k R145
- Total R484.69

Thats an INCREASE of R27.64 per month!

Oh no, almost R30 a month, we're all going to have to move onto the streets!
So you are happy that these 'reductions' will for the most part have no effect at all, and even lead to a lot of people actually paying more than they do now??

Oh no, almost R30 a month, we're all going to have to move onto the streets!
maybe not but that might be the deciding factor on wheather or not my parents will get me ADSL

I'm sorry, but I don't see how an increase of R27.64 is significant to anyone who can afford DSL, especially since they're getting twice the speed!

Personally, I find the fact that people find a way to complain about Telkom giving them twice the speed for less absolutely hilarious... I mean we all hate Telkom, but I think twice the speed for less is definitely a step in the right direction!

I agree with Karpix... Our parents dont care about the speed.. they care about the price...

Then perhaps ADSL isn't for them... it's a volitile market, and there are many extenuating circumstances that may force Cybersmart to increase thier pricing. This is a case in question...

Point being, that Cybersmart is the ONLY ISP that has chosen this pricing model, it is a risk based model as should the user use thier allocated 3GB then they are effecively incurring a loss from that account.

So, if you are really that worried about a R27 price increase, then don't use ADSL as pricing is liable to swing R100 in either direction with no notice.

Personally I'm really happy that Telkom is doing away with the 192k connection and reducing the prices... this means reduced monthly fees for what 97% of ADSL users, and increase speed and decreased prices MOST 192k users.

For less? What if you're paying for DSL 192 and that is ALL you can afford. Some people don't have an extra R10, R20 or whatever the case may be to increase their monthly budget. People have EVERY right to complain about that.

I am a newbi in ADSL circuit, I have applied for my ADSL line with telkom and am planning to choose CYBERSMART as my ISP, Can i do P2P with this account ... (i have applied for 192 kb circuit)

Agreed you have every right to complain about it.

1. There is no point complaining, because it'll have no effect especially since it only affects a hand full of 192k ADSL users. (i.e. Cybersmart 192k ADSL users)
2. How could any one afford R370.00 and not R400?? What if you by mistake make 1 extra phone call in a month?

Point being, if you can afford DSL in the first place R27 isn't a meaningful amount of money... bummer that it goes up (it shouldn't) but optimism is a good thing and I still don't see how you can complain at Telkom for doubling your speed and reducing your monthly costs by R25.00... it's not thier fault that Cybersmart has gone for such a strange pricing scheme.

And it's not Cybersmarts fault that Telkom has decided to get rid of 192k... which IMO is a really good thing, because 192k isn't broadband and if you're paying more than R200 a month you should be entitled to a taste of broadband.

BTW I'm in no way condoning Telkom's pricing, as it is still horrifically overpriced, but look at the bigger picture guys... Telkom has actually moved a tiny bit in the right direction.
