Hi guys, is anyone else experiencing problem with their Cybersmart based ADSL accounts, our main account is dropping packets up to 40% and latency is sky high at 1200ms... our backup account is also affected?

Any idea what's going on??
 
Similar problems ,but I am with Afrihost. Webafrica is also not nice. Even my 3G is having problems

Might be cape town wide issue.

From about April to October this year, my local pings were in the range of 400-1200ms. Since the end of October/start of November, local pings are around 100ms during peak, and 30-50ms at all other times. I've been with Cybersmart for about 4 years.

In my honest opinion, I dont think anybody actually knows what the hell causes these latency problems. Every single day there is a new person on myBB complaining about latency issues, I was one of them.

Some say its the ISP, others say its the exchange. I tried a different ISP and my latency issues remained the same. Then it randomly it sorted itself out ( did Telkom do something at my local exchange? Well who knows!?)

All I can say is try another ISP out. If that doesn't make a difference to your latency, blame Telkom and hope for the best.

My traceroutes had me believing that there was an issue on Cybersmart's core network, but the call centre checked with the techies, no fault on their network. Next I called Telkom DSL support, operator was very helpful, ran a couple of tests on the line, said the SNR(signal to noise ratio) is off the chart on the wrong side, and escalated the fault to NOC, they fixed the issue in 30 minutes flat. Believe me, I was very surprised, I was expecting a 2 weeks turnaround! Before the fix our latency hovered around 200ms for local, now it's very stable at 30ms for local!

For once I've actually got to commend Telkom on their excellent service!
