Cybersmart

Its misleading as screenshot one says "Cybersmart brought to you by afrihost"

So bait and switch

Don't give "hence" stories here to justify BS. Remove your misleading statements, fix your ads, clean up your T & Cs, respect the law of the land and your customers
Hi.

It has nothing to do with the T&Cs or the promotional banner.
The client is selecting Cybersmart as their provider because they wish to sign up for it, but as soon as they search for coverage, Vumatel covers their area.

I really don't know what is going on here

Is this a legitimate offer, or a ploy to get people to sign up with Afrihost? When I see the answers offered, it makes me determined to avoid at all costs

Much like the 12 to 15 emails I receive each day "Your Netflix subs have expired", "Your ABSA/Nedbank account needs verifying", "Your Domain hosting service is about to expire" as well as the old ones "Prince Ungulugu has left you U$1m"

Did you miss the Mybroadband news article that this is coming ?

The link @AfriNatic shared is directly to Cybersmart packages, but that does not mean it's available to everyone. Clients still need to check for coverage if the Fibre Network provider is in their area or not.
When checking for the fibre coverage, the page will respond with the FNO that covers the address you entered.

You can't opt for what FNO you choose, your FNO is simply dependent on what you have available.

I don't understand where the confusion is coming in here :)

It's a user experience thing - they are on the cybersmart page and expect the cybersmart packages to show when they enter their address.

It makes 100% sense that if you enter your address you would only see whatever FNO covers you, but people seem to be thrown because you're coming from the Cybersmart page.

A simple message saying "oh no, you aren't covered by Cybersmart, but here's some Vuma packages" could alleviate it.

Sure, I get that. It's a tricky one to code.

It should rather just be a search all for address and then list packages, but I get it as you want customers to progress from that point.

The advert should be worded unambiguously. A friend who does not yet have fibre would like to get this offer, but he seems to be locked to Frogfoot as far as he can make out

No, he did not read the whole 33 replies to this post, is that a pre-condition to understanding advertising? In fact he does not read MyBB at all, he was in a computer shop and they told him about it

Which areas in Cape Town s/suburbs can use Cybersmart? Are there any? He spoke to a gent at Afrihost who could not locate his suburb (Glencairn)

I understand, but it's the same argument as going to a Vumatel coverage map and not being covered. If you go to the default page and check for coverage, it would give you the allocated FNO for where you are.

We as ISPs need to do as best possible to offer services to customers, if we could offer every customer every FNO we would.

The Cybersmart coverage map has my address listed as pre-order, and has been since on that status since last year. Afrihost also tends to default your application to a Vumatel offer even if you have Openserve coverage for some reason.

So Cybersmart fibre site says I can pre-order. I head to Afrihost to see what Afrihost will provide using Cybersmart as an FNO since it's coming, it defaults to Vumatel with no warning and then provides pricing for a 500/200 service at R1247 or a 1000/500 service at R2347 while still showing the Cybersmart marketing on the page which is supposedly around R799 for a 1000Mbps service.

It's all over the place these deals

Cybersmart as the FNO might have it as pre order as in they want to build that area but don't actually have coverage.

As ISPs, we get coverage maps to which we can place orders. If we accept a pre-order and that never gets built by Cybersmart, what do we tell our customers?

It's the same thing as "show interest" basically on any other FNO.
