D3 Demon Hunters Conclave

I can't check your toon from work, but for neck Hellfire is the way to go. It's hellishly difficult to get a proper dex/crit/critdamage/slot/proper passive mix (that still does damage) though. I've tested my one, even with the bonus passive the 10% damage drop is too much. Otherwise try for a proper Countess Julia (but even that is only a stopgap to a real Hellfire)

Kit your Templar with basic gear and do some solo GR's. It's the only way to figure out items/skills/playstyle. Once in a group everything mushes together and it's impossible to see what's valuable.

Good morning forumites or folks

My Toon: http://eu.battle.net/d3/en/profile/Marmite-2938/hero/50589982

Sitting a breakpoint 6 currently.
What adjustments need to be made to buff up this char.
Things i need to work on.
RoJ,T&T and Orobos. Orobos amulet dropped twice and last one was even better.
RoJ and T&T i receive via Kadala.

Many a tnx for MentalistX which i had a great run with last night. 1 O'Clock to bed.
Also for helping me to buff up my DPS.

Nice - and a cool witching hour you have there too.

Last question for the day

Attack speed rating on Bow etc.
Some of them start 1.4 and go up to even 1.7.
What value they contribute to your char.
Then the breakpoints what influence do they have on the above.
It has to do with sentries to a point.

It has to do with sentries to a point.

They increase the base attack speed of your weapon. So takes away the need for IAS on your other items.

With Tasker you take the attack speed shown on your char sheet and use this formula:

Char attack speed x 1.(whatever % tasker is) = actual AS

So, for example with a 50% tasker and just ias difference on bows.
1.7 x 1.50 = 2.55
1.4 x 1.50 = 2.1

So that's a jump in breakpoint to the 2.16 breakpoing with IAS on the bow.

To add in your attack speed from items you just multiply again, for example:
1.6 (weapon attack speed) * 1.5 (T&T at 50% bonus) * 1.6 (+60% attack speed from items) = 3.84

To calculate weapon attack speed with a weapon with +attack speed on it, remember to do the following; for example a 1.6 attack speed weapon with +7% attack speed
1.6 + (1.6 * 0.07) = 1.712 attacks per second

So adding the whole lot together with a 1.6 weapon which has +7% attack speed bonus, 50% TaT, 60% attacks per second bonus from items
(1.6 + (1.6 * 0.07)) * 1.5 * 1.6 = 4.1088

tl;dr

So in short give me the breakdown of the necessities for a good DH, I have a Maurader chest and a Bombnutsack

Wait. I thought T&T only affected your pets' attack speed?

No, if you want into DH club you'd better do the research. :P

Nasty bastid...

You need Marauder set for breezing through T6 and higher rifts

T&T to go uber

Read up on BreakPoints (only applies once you have Marauder six set which the point at which Sentries become your primary (only?) source of damage dealing.

Cliff Notes on BP's - the higher your Attack Speed the more bolts/arrows your sentries can fire - ergo the more damage you deal

Have a look at my toon setup to get an idea of which skills you need

PS: Once you have full Marauders you switch to 3 hatred spenders ('cos your turrets fire them) - EA cold arrow is there so that the "cull the weak" comes into play

Thank you good captain!

I need one more Maurader item to bring on the pain, boots fyi.
At the moment I'm enjoying elemental arrow ball lightning. atm I got 70% lightning skill damage pushing my dps a little over 1.6mil
I have a Meticulous Bolts quiver but rolls are a bit bad, no chc or sentry damage, but can reroll something for one of those, once I get the boots I'll test out which will be better Meticulous Bolts or Bombermans nutsack :D

The two are for different playstyles. You can do sentries with the default vault up to say GR35/40, but then mobs really begin to hit very hard, so you need a way to ignore damage.

That's where guys came up with Meticulous Bolts + all Elemental Arrow->Lightning. If you go that build:
1. Scrap Multishot and Cluster Arrow, replace all +Cluster/Multishot with EA
2. Replace Vault with Smoke Screen
3. Take Night Stalker Passive and Preparation skill to regen Discipline
4. Add Custom Engineering so you're back on 3 sentries
5. Add e.g. Marked for Death as last skill

Basically then you run in, and take turns with Smoke Screen to go invulnerable, shoot at enemies with EA, smoke screen etc until the enemies die. I tried it, basically you usually run out of Hatred before you do Discipline. You use the big packs to regen on Discipline. Its sort of fun in that you are in the middle of the action, if you miss a Smoke you die and you're shooting at enemies again.

The last mod to that is to get a Helltrapper, so you're autospawning spikes/caltrops/sentries (altho that works for normal M6 too).
You can also replace e.g. Enforcer with Gogok; it basically goes to full +15% attack speed in no time every fight, so it helps to get to that elusive max BP.

Thank you for the tips animal, atm I have a toughness issue, but switching to smoke screen helps much better than vault.
PS. should I only use EA for the sentries?

Yup lots of hints and tips for me as well last night, as well as the Marauder boots I needed to get the 6 piece bonus - thanks!!!

Now, got a lot of catching up to do on all this breakpointy stuff. Anyone have a link that has an easily digestible summary perhaps?

Yep.

Multishot+ClusterArrow is on a cooldown, so if you have only them as spenders on your bar they'll only fire a shot now and then with normal bolts inbetween that do very little damage (until the cooldown resets). So for default M6 people use Multishot+ClusterArrow+ElementalArrow to eliminate normal bolts.

EA can continually fire, but in general do very little damage. The change comes with Meticulous Bolts, so now the lightning will hit e.g. an enemy 6 times instead of 2 times, which is a huge dps increase.

So for this lightning build you only put EA on the bar and shoot for the fastest attack speed BP for your 2-3 sentries. Basically you'll see as your attack speed go up the balls get closer and closer to each other until eventually you almost can't make them out anymore hehe.

The trick is to to replace all +MS/CA on head/feet with +EA, and all +Fire/Cold with +Lightning, and skills like Ballistics with some Discipline regen. You can keep MS/CA in the rotation as well, it could even do more damage until you get your lightning/EA up, but then of course you won't have the extra survival skills available.
