D3 Demon Hunters Conclave

Does the bolts of the polar station also chill enemies? If it does I might give that a go on the PS4. Still can't figure out a good way to trigger BotT and CtW without a Kridershot. If polar station bolts work it might be an option since their chill effect isn't ideal because you can't control placement.

As far as I know, no it doesn't

Only the aura around the Sentry applies the chill

Hi all

Vengeance of--Seethe generates 10 hatred / sec.
Well done Animal this one is King for usage.
Companion-Bat generates 1 hatred / sec.

Max hatred you can generate on equipment max 1.5 hatred/sec. Useless all the way.

@AfricanTech

I will keep you in mind next time before recycling legends.:D

Using the pretty standard Cold-CA spec:
LMB: Evasive Fire - Focus
RMB: CA - Maelstrom
1: Vault - Tumble
2: Sentry - Polar Station
3: Companion
4: Prep - Punishment
Passives: Cull the Weak (from HF amulet), Custom Eng, Steady Aim, Awareness, Ballistics

I've found that the cold build completely smashes the fire CA I tried earlier, and I cannot figure out why. On the PTR I smashed everything with the fire build, but it just doesn't work for me now.

I also dropped the Enforcer gem for the BotP.

Same as mine, except for Prep->Vengeance.
I tried a full Fire when I just started playing again, but it felt as if it was doing 10-20% less damage.

I think the trouble with a fire build is that it just cannot get that extra boost from CtW and BotT. Like an extra 40% dmg received is massive and cannot be made up by spitfire turrets, rockets and loaded for bear.

Morning. So after playing a full evening with my seasonal demon hunter since the patch, I've made a bunch of changes... But I also have some questions. My profile below

http://www.diabloprogress.com/hero/rich-2550/Mogal/50875333

I opted to go for cold damage (always been a personal favorite of mine even with my wizard) so I have the various cold spells and passives.

I did a grift 35 last night in 11 minutes. It was late so I was tired and lazy so I died quite a lot even though I have awareness.

I'm trying to figure out how to stay alive more and not be one shotted. There are some mobs that just eat me alive and awareness is not enough and my 11million isn't either.

Aside from a unity ring, what are my options?

Would appreciate the help on this matter and anything else you might spot on my profile (like a need a blind faith for more crowd control)

My frost gauntlets help a bit with crowd control and the blackthorne set helps with damage reduction.

Animal should be able to give you better advice

Some tips.

Learn to use the companion active defensively as well as offensively. The webbing plus the boar taunt can be a great pre-emptive tool when you notice the mobs are closing in.
If you are up against a bunch of really dangerous mobs, putting down your sentries and then getting behind a wall and just shooting at your feet can be a safe way to do some dps.
Your rockets from CA-Mael should still hit the mobs, and your turrets always shoot at the mob that is their target, regardless of where you shoot. So you are still doing around 60-70% effective dps, which is more than you would manage if you were vaulting around to dodge the dangerous mobs and not shooting your CA.
Learn to place your polar station turrets in strategic CC positions, not just a random placement.
Vault is used to reposition, kite, collect Health Globes for Hatred/Health, Dodge strong attacks, get off ground effects. The more of those you can accomplish per single vault, the better. Dodging a ground effect, kiting and grabbing a health globe in one vault will drastically improve your survivability than just accomplishing one.

What Soul said, but here's some more.

Main stats/items/skills:
1. As you say, for survival Unity is the biggest factor, it will pretty much halve whatever damage you take. I find with my ping (/being old) that I can't react nearly as fast as I need to, so taking a damage ring over Unity doesn't work for me
2. Paragon makes a big difference, a few extra points here and there in HP/Resistance/Armor etc all add up (but obviously there's not much you can immediately do about it if you don't have a high p-level)
3. Having said that, once you get onto Unity you need a lot less toughness than you think. E.g. 11m is too much; for example with Unity, 8m Toughness and say 550k hp you should be able to not die in a solo GR39. Obviously with a Unity on 8m that's almost the same as 16m without (but a lot easier to get to stat-wise). My point here is basically that you don't want to reroll items to res/vit, or use res gems. If you roll the wrong stats on your items its a lot of schlep to get new items and/or reroll to the correct stats, for when you do get a Unity set
4. Leaderboard guys are doing runs with 4m toughness and no Unity...but that's a bit tricky to impossible with our crappy pings, and of course they run GR's over and over until they get a 1/1000 instance; which isn't really my cup of tea. So just stick with Unity and some toughness, but roll away to dps stats wherever you can

Other things:
1. Your 2xBane/Zei Gems, I see they are still low level. Do some quick low level runs, just enough that you have a high % to upgrade so you can get them close to level 35-40 asap (/or basically where your max GR is at)
2. Overall your items are pretty good. I'd maybe go attack speed on bow (every bit of hatred regen is good), farm for an uber (ancient haha) neck and replace the legs with something ancient as soon as you find it. Depth Diggers are decent, but you don't do that much damage with your main as compared to spenders (each sentry gives you +100% anyway). Farm for Frostburn, or e.g. a good helm that'll give you +8% damage. Or right now basically any ancient Gloves/Head/Chest/Legs/Feet item

Playing:
1. It takes some practice to stand far away from mobs when attacking, and to move safely through the last dregs so you can chain the next pack. I used to die a lot, but as I play more I die less and less, I guess the trick is to learn which mobs are dangerous and which not. If they're not dangerous then you want to stand closer or move through them earlier so as to chain the next pack
2. Place sentries on mobs, or in front of them since they move a bit to you before being pet intercepted. Place them in doorways so you can cover 2 rooms. Spread sentries out. You have to be economical with sentry dropping/spenders, don't fire too many spenders before you have enough sentries out and don't run out of sentries when running into a new area, because you overdropped the previous room
3. If I hit a crappy elite pack with act 5 chargers or fast packs then I'll run like a little girl. Run-shoot-drop sentry-run-shoot etc. Prep helps to keep your general killing speed high, but Vengeance really helps with crappy big packs/elites, even though you can't use it as much
4. I don't hide a lot. If you're keeping your distance then you are ok for most enemies. If they're charging you then often hiding doesn't work anyway and you have to run (depending on the map). The exception are for things like lightning that only triggers once they see you or bosses that'll 1 shot you with their crap abilities

He he :D

Picked up another Kridershot last night (running a normal rift with Animal and Marmite) - rolled the socket for damage and used my second Rama - in retrospect I should have checked to see if it would have been worth it to roll the damage higher rather - ah well...

Also finished a GR36 on my first try at that level :D

I find it quite tough to get anything higher than GR 35 keys from the Trial keys. My Hatred just gets drained too quickly. The actual GR 35 I have no issues with and finish that with loads of time still left. Wonder what I am doing wrong?

Same here

I've found switching out Vault or Smoke Screen for Caltrops - Bait the Trap, Awareness for Steady Aim/Ambush/Single Out, and BotP gem for maybe Enforcer or Efficacious Toxin would provide a healthy DPS boost. I'd also not use a Unity ring, but rather something that could bring more mob DPS.

Assuming something doesn't fart next to you on 40+, you should be able to push higher than what you can actually do.

My highest GR is 41 atm, but managed to qualify for a 45 keystone even with my BotP gem and Unity.

Make sure that you have Engineering+Bombsack. When it starts run straight down so you're standing between the bottom left cleft and the Heal. Drop 3 sentries above you, about in a horizontal row where the bottom of the cleft ends. Then drop 2 more as the enemies start spawning (can spread them out for Zei, but its not really neccesary). All enemies will now run down/to the right, right into your sentries.

Start shooting your main skill for giggles, then as you hit 20's as soon as enemies spawn shoot 1-2 maelstroms, then main skill again to fill up for the next wave etc. Late 20's you can activate Wolf, 30's you can activate e.g. Vengeance. Drop sentries again as they become available.

So basically just stay there on the bottom, run around and shoot up. Watch out for jumpers and check the minimap, once in a blue moon an enemy will stand still way up, then you may just have to run up a bit.

Followup - here are my two Kriders

I might have been able to get away with not using the Rama - a perfect roll on the damage would have left me about 25 damage points short (at the top end) of what I got with the +10% - if I work on average min/max then it looks much better @137 damage points diff.

/Rama's Remorse :o

My experience with re-rolling damage has been poor though, so I guess a bird in the hand and all that...

thanks all for the information, much appreciated.

This is what I am using at the moment for my solo build. I use the templar, but last night I got the "your follower cant die" for my enchantress so I might switch to that for the boost in attack speed.

One question. Should I switch back to Polar Station for my sentires? Spitfire Turret has the benefit of firing rockets non-stop while I spam CA to proc the cull the weak, But im not convinced. What do you think??

Edit : worth noting that my Kridershot I can roll that socket into +%damage. I need a ramadalading though

Dang dude - an Ancient Krider!

That's what I was hoping for when my 2nd one dropped.

PS: I use the scoundrel for his crowd control abilities (he is equipped with a 10% chance to freeze buriza - should probably consider equipping him with a Windforce for the knockback)

Heh, realised that I haven't looked at what the Scoundrel is equipped with for a while...
