The DA shouldn't get a get out of jail free card for this just because they are the DA. They misrepresented the truth for their own gain and got caught red handed.

Hopefully the DA will remember that next time they are tempted to claim another false victory.
What's really sad is that it's dashed my hopes that the DA are actually doing a great job, I'm sure I'm not alone.

Are they asking for a get out of jail free card? The DA shouldn't get a get out of jail free card for this just because they are the DA. They misrepresented the truth for their own gain and got caught red handed.
24% drop in crime is still a huge improvement in one of the worst areas in the Cape. But I guess its just a false victory![]()
That is even more bleak.Crime statistics in the area for the period 2009/2010 show a reduction of 17.26% compared to 2003/2004. This means that there has been a slight increase of 6.66% in crimes reported in Khayelitsha in the last year
Amazing how the DA gets defended for their "errors". If this was the ANC you guys would have shot them down.
Not complaining - just saying.![]()

The DA came out and admitted their error when it was pointed out to them. When is the last time another party behaved in the same way? Most times other parties errors get uncovered and the party responsible tries to shift blame or hide it. Thats a very different scenario.
Just saying.

I did not see to many defending them, maybe you are just a bit sensitive![]()
Eh? I'm amazed at how you can judge that from my post. Well done BBSA.![]()
Was this a real lie or some honest clerical mistake?
maybe it was a pathological lie or a case of incompetency on behalf of the DA. 70% decrease in crime rate is a huge number and I would have personally verified it especially with people on the ground in Khayelitsha. This is how you win the hearts of the people. You don't study them in Microsoft Excel and make claims, you actually reach out to them.

Quite true. Statistics on paper mean ****all in in real life.
The residents were reached out to.... Sauce. Nevermind the sports grounds, parks etc that also got built which has zero to do with the crime stats.Residents now report feeling safer in these former no-go areas, able to walk freely at any time of the day.
Reverse psychology! WorkedPrediction FAIL!![]()
The residents were reached out to.....
Silbert told News24 many Khayelitsha residents had expressed disbelief at the DA claim. "A lot of people were quite shocked. People were wondering where this decrease had taken place."
He said it was important to have the right statistics to highlight the scope of the problem. "There is increased exposure to crime in the area and the criminal justice system is overburdened," he said.
Silber said people in the area report being attacked while walking to public transport spots or to communal toilets.
"Simple things that we take for granted can become life threatening," he said.
Silbert acknowledged that good work was being done in the fight against crime by institutions including the community-based Violence Prevention through Urban Upgrading (VPUU) in Khayelitsha.
"We need to talk about how to expand programmes like that," Silber said.

While another report claims.
70% versus 24% is an gross exaggeration and extremely manipulative.
