DA blames ANC for recession.

COSATU isn't too happy about it either:
http://www.citizen.co.za/index/News/874472.page

But you will notice that the DA isn't calling for ridiculous things like an immediate 200 point drop in the repo rate (it only wants 100 points); nor is it making subtly anti-intellectual comments like "[it's] even bigger than the so-called ‘experts' predicted”.

Both groups end up saying almost exactly the same thing, though:

In light of this larger than expected contraction of the economy, it is now more clear than ever that government, labour and business need to work together to find solutions to the economy's woes.

This is a massive national crisis which requires an immediate response from government, labour and business to defend our jobs and livelihoods.

(Guess who's who!)

But yeah. Curse the DA for having the gall to criticise the government etc, etc...

maybe the DA have been taken over by a borg hybrid,
of ANCYL-YCL-COSATU... you don't need to bea rocket scientist
to realise that our export driven economy was bound to be hit by the world crisis.
what with plummeting metal prices and what-not!

The ANC should take necessary steps to ensure that South Africa is the only country to escape effects of Global Economic Crisis.

Too late, way way, waaaaaay too late, SA has just been lucky, to have lasted this long...

It's all quite simple really, the minute Trevor was moved, he pulled the plug on the economy, and now we are in a recession, despite him saying that we weren't....so yes, by that logic, of course the ANC caused it!! ;)

What about the rest of the world? Is the ANC also at fault there or is it only in South Africa? Is South Africa not going to be affected by the lack of exports or the fact that the REST OF THE WORLD is in recession?

Yea the ANC has destroyed the world!!!!!!!!!! How could they!!!!!!!!

Of course they are to blame!!:D:p

Voted DA, but the "hapenings" recently are starting to irritate me to say the least. Stop with the mud slinging already and be part of the solution.:mad:

I have said the DA are a bunch of headline grabbing bafoons and as usual with DA bang on the money.

What must the ANC do about the fact that large companies and small companies are not doing close to the turn over they were and the net result is job loses, people are not spending like they did before and that effects the entire country. How does the ANC stop companies closing because they have 0 business or business is so bad they cannot make ends meet?

Does the DA think before they grab headlines or do they think being in paper everyday makes them special, we know they are "special" already :p

The people of this country have tightened their belts far too much and this the worst problem, we need people to spend but everyone hears recession and stops wasting money which deepens the crisis i reckon. Awaits djk :p

To blame 'only' the ANC for the recession we are facing/experiencing is rather dim!

There's no mudslinging. Yes, the rest of the world is in recession, but SA is in a larger-than-expected recession. It's natural to assume that the government could have prevented this. It's also natural to expect the opposition to point this out.

DA also provided a solution which was pretty much the same as the one COSATU suggested.

Look past the attention-grabbing, newspaper-selling headline and think for yourself ;-)

Geee that's f***in bad. In your country, not only global recession seems to be at work but also, a bad/incompetent government. This is like what, 5% of economic contraction from the one quarter to the next ! That much about South African economic stability. I belive the public schools are not functional, the police/crime is as it is, home affaires is in tatters (basicaly run by Nigerians), very high unemployment, rampant corruption, judiciary down the drain. Hmmm . . . What more. Name it and probably is bad. Welcum to the 'new South Africa'. :D

Feel you and partially aggree. BUT maybe, if you looked deeper into what I said, you would have realised I was not only refering to the recesion response but to their actions as of late. But hey everyone have freedom of speech...

This is again the media slinging mud. NOWHERE do the DA accuse the ANC of causing the recession. They blame the ANC for not doing more to protect South Africa form the effects of the global financial crisis.

"This not only confirms that our economy is now in a full-blown recession, but also that the ANC government has not taken the necessary steps to ensure that we survive the worst effects of the global economic crisis," DA MP Dion George said in a statement.

It is time for someone to take these cowboy reporters to court. Get your facts straight.

I did read what you wrote. I suppose you're referring to the recent "spat" with the Youth League? All the mud came from the Inkwenks, bru...

Controversial statement of the day: I blame the poor standard of education in SA... It's far too easy to "misquote" a quote and write a load of drivel than it is to actually report accurately and create a hard hitting/insightful report. The dumbing down of the education system in SA is NOT a good thing. That's to say of course journalists actually have a qualification.

Sensationalism sells papers but in SA it's going to lead to a lot worse than profits for media companies.

Hmmm... on the other hand, the newspapers may be starting to target a different demographic.

This demographic, which I will call "A", has a certain antagonism towards a another demographic, which I will arbitrarily call "D".

A great way to get members of the "A" demographic to pick up a newspaper is to show them a headline that appears to bash members of demographic "D". Only on reading the rest of the article will the A's find out that the D's were actually talking sense all along. Before you know it, a whole bunch of A's are turning into D's, there's more support for the D's, the country does better as a whole, the middle class expands and what do you know: more people can buy newspapers.

The problem with this is: A's only read headlines.
