"DA Closing in on ANC"

My prediction- The DA will capture 2 or 3 municipalities in the EC (Kouga, NMB, Baviaans) still have nothing in KZN, Limpopo or the FS. There will be a big push in the NW and Mpumalanga and I believe the DA can capture a few municipalities in the Northern Cape however it will still remain in ANC control. The DA will capture the WC entirely, holding 50% of the municipalities, the ANC holding none. Gauteng is the interesting one. I think the DA can close in enough so that the ANC do not hold a majority in certain municipalities however I do not think they can win any more just yet. By 2019 however it will be in DA control.

I don't really want the DA to win more than 20% of the popular vote. Instead, I'd love for two other parties to also win 15% of the vote. A representative democracy like ours only makes sense when nobody holds the majority in parliament. If the ANC got 45% of the vote, I couldn't care less that they'd still be in power as long as there is more accountability. In fact, there's a lot of things I like about the ANC manifesto, in theory, it's just that there is no accountability.

The DA isn't ready to rule because their whole image is built around not being the ANC. Being opposite isn't exactly a good quality.

Nope, I just laughed at you when you voted ID for their broadband policies - only to have them stab you in the back by aligning with the ANC to try and gain majority in CT. :p

Brilliant by-election result for DA in Matatiele, deep ECape. DA 26.54% of votes compared to 4.1% in 2011. Onwards to gen election 2014.

By-elections are generally poorly attended compared to local and national elections.

No doubt there is progress but it's good to be aware of caveats such as the one above.

I tend to disagree with this.

The image I have of the DA is more "Look at us, we govern well, we provide services, we are trying to make this country work"
