Who are the people on the DA street posters? The one's who aren't Helen Zille? I checked the website and there is a picture on the homepage with Zille and 3 others, 2 of whom are on the posters here in Cape Town (it's like a slideshow of 5 pictures, I'm looking at picture 1).
I checked the National leaders but aside from Joe Seremane they are all white. So I checked the Members of parliament and provincial leaders but they are also mostly white and the two people featured on the posters are not among the non-whites in those groups. I'm just bringing up the white thing because the people I'm trying to identify are not white and are both quite good looking. I'm starting to suspect they are models hired by the DA and have nothing to do with politics at all! ;)
I'm only joking about that, I'm assuming they are on the candidates list for the upcoming election but can anyone actually tell me who they are? Aside from Helen Zille the DA hasn't really profiled anyone else, even Joe Seremane, the deputy leader has kept a really low profile and I'd like to know more about the candidates before I decide to vote for them...

I think they are part of the DA 2009 election candidates.

The party’s candidates for Parliament and the Provincial Legislatures include many of the DA’s most experienced and dedicated incumbents, as well as fresh faces that are new to South African politics.

candidate list

Well yes, I should hope they are part of the DA 2009 election candidates. I still would like to know who they are.

Anyone?

Are they on the posters cause they're young, good looking and fresh but with no say or influence? Is the DA trying to mislead me by showing how lovely, young, hip and multiracial they are when these people are actually so low down on the candidate list as to be unlikely to have any influence? I'm just wondering - the top 10 people on the national assembly list for the western cape:
1. Coetzee, Ryan
2. James, Wilmot Godfrey
3. Selfe, James
4. Smuts, Mudene
5. Lamoela, Helen
6. Doman, Willem Phillips
7. Mnqasela, Masizole
8. Marais, Sarel Jacobus Francois
9. Robinson, Denise
10. Fritz, Albert T

The provincial list:
1. Zille, Helen
2. Botha, Theunis Louis
3. Esau, Shahid
4. Bredell, Anton Wilhelm
5. Meyer, Ivan Henry
6. Van Rensburg, Hendrik Gerhardus
7. Madikizela, Bonginkosi Success
8. Carlisle, Robert, Vincent
9. Max, Lennit Hendry
10. Winde, Alan Richard

Can someone who actually knows who they are please put names to faces for me?

If they do not appear on the lists above then why are they on the posters? I want to know who I'm voting for not who the prettiest people in the party are! I'm assuming they are on the list but to someone who doesn't really know the DA (me and many others) the DA = Helen Zille + a tiny Ryan Coetzee, and a little Theunis Botha - those are the only people I've ever encountered in the media (and Theunis doesn't really inspire me).

There isn't a rule that says leaders have to be on posters. I'm guessing the faces are just supporters or potential supporters.

Why the emphasis on race. Who cares what colour they are apart from you?

There isn't a rule, no - but a poster with someones face on it saying vote for the da implies that the person represents the DA. if you're right and they are not candidates then it's extremely misleading and dodgy. I suspect you're wrong though and they are indeed candidates.

Well lots of people probably. But I already said:
I'm just bringing up the white thing because the people I'm trying to identify are not white
so it's an easy way to identify if they're there or not. Look at the DA page hmm white, white, white, white, ok they're not there move on to the next page. Simple as that.

How is it misleading?

Lots of people are wrong, just as you are.

How can you identify people on the "DA page" as white in any case?

How is it misleading?
It's misleading cause you think you're voting for someone you're not.
It's actually obvious...

Lots of people are wrong, just as you are.
Wrong about what?

How can you identify people on the "DA page" as white in any case?
Well I was looking at the pictures under the "Our People" links on the DA website since I wanted to know who the people on the posters were. I assumed (wrongly) that they would be there...

Agree'ed. I thought that in the new South Africa we were over that BS already.

People shouldn't vote for somebody based on the colour of their skin, they should vote for people based on what the political party is promising to bring to the table if elected (Which of course, I still have to see a single party in SA ever do but not the point)

If I had to guess, you were searching for black people so you could say there weren't any/many in the DA. Would you vote for someone who didn't look like you?

Geez people, it's a simple question:
Who are the candidates on the posters in Cape Town?
Does anybody actually know who they are?

This is not Idols... You don't vote for the party with the pretty faces.

You look at what the party stands for. Now if the party that you feel will do the most for this country has a wrinkled old fart for a leader, do you still vote for that party?

In my opinion, yes.

You would guess wrong - I was searching to find out who the people on the DA posters were, I think the woman is quite cute.
And yes, I would vote for someone who didn't look like me - what kind of question is that?

It says vote FOR the DA. Not.. vote for me

Phrased slightly better, But I dont know who they are. In fact I'm not sure anyone knows who half of the ANC, COPE, FF, or the rest are for that matter.

Yes I agree, that's my point.
The DA is putting pretty faces up all over cape town and then you go find out who they are and no-one can tell you. That's the point - I'm not going to vote for them just because they are pretty faces - once I know who they are I can see what they've done, where they've been, what they've said, what their views are - things I can use to make a decision - then they would then no longer be just be pretty faces...

Well Jacob Zuma seems to be on all the ANC posters - those that have a face and I'm sure we all know who he is. I don't recall seeing any COPE posters around and the FF has Pieter Mulder on the posters I've seen - I know who he is and what he stands for...

:D And thats because they are using his status as an "infamous celebrity" as their advertising compaign.

It implies that they are candidates.
That's why it would be misleading if they are not.
No it doesn't. If I had to stand on the street corner tomorrow and say "vote for the ANC". Does it mean I am an ANC Supporter or a Candidate? It means none, unless you know for a fact or I have said so. If I however say "Vote for ME", Then you know right away I am a candidate.

Having posters of the average joe soap on the poster however, (and I am not implying that this is the case), makes me feel that the people of the country want me to vote for a party who's ideals they believe in, rather than voting for one man

I don't see why we are basing votes on what the poster looks like? Shouldn't we be more concerned with their policies and overall manifesto. Who cares who the cute chick on the poster is.

Whatever - putting someones face on an official party poster is different to some guy standing on the street and you know it. I want to know who they are and I'm going to continue to assume they are candidates rather than that the DA is misleading people.

If I was going to vote for a party based purely on the ideals they believe in, rather than the actual people involved in the organisation then I would vote ANC. Who the candidates are and what we know about them makes a difference. I'm not going to vote for a party with wonderful ideals if I don't know who I'm tasking with fulfilling those ideals.

Somebody must know who they are?
Isn't there a DA representative on the forum?
