DA-run Khayelitsha sees 70 percent crime decrease

If you guys (DA) can really prove to the South African public that the DA will govern South Africa properly than the ANC, and that everyone will be treated with respect and treated equally then you will begin to win some black votes in the next few decades. Let's face it, whites have had just over 350 years to treat everyone equally but dinosaur mentality prevailed until De Klerk "sold out" the old white regime and Mandela took power peacefully.

I know of a few farm (black) workers who are abused and treated badly by their (white) bosses, what will make then vote for the DA, which in many people's eyes is a white run and supported party? It is true that people actually do think that the DA will run the country better than the ANC but their are scared of bringing white people back to power. It's not because they think you guys will bring back apartheid (that's what they say I know), but it's because they are afraid that oppression in the workplace will be worse (more specifically farms), they are afraid that white people will assert their power and authority and probably abuse blacks.. They are afraid that freedom of movement for blacks will be restricted, a few white people might say blacks are not allowed to live in a certain complex because (generally speaking) blacks make a lot of noise. A black student might be bitten up by whites and then get away with it because the police and the courts wil be run by whites, and so that will send a message to other whites that blacks can be treated in whatever way. These are some of my fears as well as other black people's fears of a South Africa run by whites, and that's why we are a bit sceptical about putting my cross on the DA spot. Laws under a DA run SA might be fair for all South Africans but what about what happens on the ground?

Anyway!!!

I'm seeing more and more people on a daily bases becoming fed up and disillusions win the ANC (myself included). Many young black people today don't see the ANC as a party that liberated blacks but as a party that is doing its job/not doing its job. So therefore in the next decade or so more and more voters will base their decisions for voting for the ANC on their performance instead of their role in abolishing Apartheid.

Wow this forum is really displaying its fondness for hypocracy today. A SAPS link for crime stats is posted and it seems NOBODY is doubtful of their authenticity. However the same source is rubbished in countless other threads on this very forum when there is a claim from government that there has been a decrease of ANY kind in the crime stats.

Yet again, I wonder what different now...
;)

Yes, one certainly has to wonder when the minister of police gets caught in the act of releasing dodgy crime stats. The charge of hypocrisy is more valid when applied to ANC apologists who are running out of rational excuses to continue voting for the ANC.

This is the problem right here - seeing everything in terms of black and white governments. Voting will continue (mostly) along racial lines until we focus on the 350 years ahead instead of the 350 years behind us.

Good post Sly, and it is understandable that many blacks feel this way, especially with that abuse by some white bosses. However, even though it is understandable they feel this way, this fear is unfounded as the DA is probably, if not the most racially diverse political party. So people must stop thinking of them as the "white" party. Also taking a look at how they are running the WC, they are taking care of everyone equally and doing a great job (Khayelitsha isn't white at all and look how much effort they put in building up the place).

I know it must be hard for black people to trust a majority white party so soon after apartheid, but with the current government, who are destroying this great country with their corruption, I can only hope they change their minds sooner rather than later.

I agree with you partly, however, what do they see as abuse? Am I allowed to give the person a mouthful if he did a bad job? I often get the idea that this whole white abuse stuff is something that differs in from a cultural perspective. Sure the AWB trash guy needs to be jailed or fined for abusing his workers, but really how many of them still experience such heavy work-related issues?

Race has a role to play but the oppression of farm workers or the poor is not limited to South africa and certainly not limited to be a black & white issue.

Given our history, race is unfortunately entrenched in our socio-economic make up, so what it many cases is simply an issue of poverty or the oppression of the poor in general easily becomes a "race" issue in RSA.

The danger is when we start bundling all people e.g. farmers into a certain class or stereotype to justify our own opinions.
