Some good new, if only we can see more places run by the DA.
The Democratic Alliance (DA) claims its City of Cape Town, led by them, has managed to decrease crime in Khayelitsha by 70 percent since coming into power in 2006.
It attributes this to the city’s Violence Prevention through Urban Upgrading program which is supported by German funders.
The initiative has seen R120 million invested into the township to enhance safety and security.
The party said on Sunday police statistics show more than 16,000 crime incidents were reported in township between 2003 and 2004.
The DA’s Shadow Minister for Diane Kohler-Barnard said the latest statistics were encouraging.
“It was nothing short of inspirational. According to the statistics 15,600 criminals acts were reported in 2003/4, and if we look now the number has plummeted to 5,000. That’s a 70 percent drop,” she said.
