DA set to swallow ID

I think it will bring the last of the coloured people into the DA fold, and De Lille is not so bad, apart from her power mongering attempt by siding with the ANC recently. She won't be able to do that in the DA so it can only go well.

What we have to watch is all the people moving from the Eastern Cape into the Western Cape to try and drum up ANC numbers.... that's where the real threat to the DA lies in the long term. No ANC party is going to convince the current locals of Cape Town that they can do better in Cape Town than the DA. Not with their track record!
 
Helen and Pat have always had the love hat sibling relationship. When their previous coalition fell apart it was during a time when the DA was having major internal struggles. Then it was a doomed relationship. Much of the in-fighting started to take the form of racial divison - I was present (and voted) during a very important DA sitting of councilers that eventually lead to the ousting of Peter Marias and his cronies.

It was nasty - Helen also had a go at Pat and the ID then (it was 3 yrs ago).

But politics is a funny game and both Helen & Pat have realised that they need each other to survive. You need strong racial representation to gain the support of your target voters. Pat is one of the few publicly known coloureds not to have a questionable past.

Dont you think that De Lille could exploit the potential racial divisions you speak of? Just playing devils advocate here, not saying she would. :D

Firstly I have no problem with the DA, don't make assumptions. I don't regard politics like footbal, hence i don't "support" any one party, But I stand by my point that they have no credibility with large parts of the population. And if you keep believing that Black folk are uneducated drones who only vote ANC because they're stupid, then you're suffering from the same problem that the DA and other oppostion parties suffer from. The day opposition parties in this country figure out WHY most ppl vote ANC, that's the day they can actually get some of those votes.

She won't try put Zille in disrepute because she can’t. Next to the ANC the DA are Jedi Knights compared to the ANC Sith Lords/Darth Vader character. She [de Lille] is a useful asset – a pitbull sniffing-out ANC corruption but that is all.

Hear, hear. The DA mustn’t compromise their credibility in an effort to become more ‘black’. Black parties/individuals must accept the DA as it stands. No compromising on values to encompass corruption and incompetence just to strengthen their ‘black’ credentials.
 
Judging by the condescending tone of the posters above who are clearly DA supporters, the DA has LONG way to go if they are to become a threat to the ANC in the other 8 provinces.

The DA will NEVER succeed outside the WC if they dont address the constituencies in those areas with messages that are important to them.

Sorry, I fail to see what the ANC has accomplished, that deserves these votes besides run our once great country to the ground, while increasing their personal wealth. Maybe, I am just an ignorant fool and missed out on all these amazing acts by the ANC and if so please enlighten me. From what I can see, the reason why they get these votes is, because they offer false promises and claims of helping the poor, but actually they just taking the money for themselves and basically robbing the poor.

The reason why I say they are uneducated drones, is because they support this obvious charade. A perfect example is Juluis Malema, who has gain quite a following for nationalizing the mines to alleviate poverty. Which will obviously not happen, and probably be worse for the poor. On top of that, he has gained enormous wealth, through tenders. In the process making Limpopo the pit hole, that it is currently is. Even after all of this came out, they still support him. So i repeat uneducated drones.

uhm. do you know the demographic of the Western Cape....Helen already has the "coloured vote".

She needs the "black" vote in the Western Cape. De Lille won't help in that department.

Exactly. Hairdryers, free houses,free washing machines, free kettles, free irons.

They do NOT want to hear....safer streets, good schools, less corruption, more by-laws.

Nobody is suggesting that they are ALL uneducated.

Take the Western Cape, what conclusions are we meant to draw when they supported the ANC overwhelmingly with the clear majority of them uneducated .

People vote for the ANC for safety, loyalty, race, stupidity and empty promises.

What we need to look at is the 18-25 age range, and the breakdown of this vote.
