The counting for the WC and EC is complete according to the IEC map thingy. And the DA took the WC with an outright majority.

Congratulations is in order I guess :)

I get only 1,217,674 votes in total with my calculator. This cannot be correct for the total vote?
In 2004 there were 1,566,949 votes cast in the Western Cape.

Don't pop out the champagne just yet.

While I think it's ****ing awesome the DA took the WC, the next worry is this. What happens if millions of people have the same idea? Yes the ranks of DA supporters will swell in the WC but then the other provinces will lose those voters. Of course if this hapens the WC will definately become a stronghold for the DA which isn't an entirely bad thing I suppose.

Along with that, this "Utopia" will become very popular, and I'm guessing it will also become an attractive playground for criminals too.

Just my two pennies worth...
 
A lot of you guys are looking at the national results by province. Click on Provincial and it'll show you the right numbers.

From what I hear there is a "bottleneck" :D apparently in the vote count from Mitchell's Plein etc.
 
The counting of the WC is not complete yet. Apparently they stopped counting last night because they had booked the venue until midnight
...As far as I can see on TV only the EC has been concluded.

Hope they still for an alliance with some of the smaller parties so as to help along the same thing in other provinces so that they can form a better opposition in those provinces the ANC has the majority vote.

The last update was 7:30 this morning - 51.33% No idea if this is the official total tally. But according to the Map it is. Instead of saying leading party it says winning party. And the map itself change to completed.

Wrong or right the DA took the majority which is awesome for a democracy.

DA 590,844 49.31 %

ANC 379,691 31.69 %

COPE 107,845 9.00 %

I don't like the coalition thing that much and this is why:

People who voted for COPE as an example and COPE is part of the coalition, this means those people are happy with their vote and will still vote COPE again the following election. However if the DA runs the province and keep the whole province happy the people who voted for the other parties will vote for the DA again next election.

Once you have the Majority, you need to keep it and provide the things that will make a difference to the people there. That way you win more votes for the next election :)

Yes, if you need to get the majority. No if you have the majority.

I hope they think about it very clearly before taking on un-needed baggage.
