I don't like the coalition thing that much and this is why:
People who voted for COPE as an example and COPE is part of the coalition, this means those people are happy with their vote and will still vote COPE again the following election. However if the DA runs the province and keep the whole province happy the people who voted for the other parties will vote for the DA again next election.
Once you have the Majority, you need to keep it and provide the things that will make a difference to the people there. That way you win more votes for the next election
Yes, if you need to get the majority. No if you have the majority.
I hope they think about it very clearly before taking on un-needed baggage.
There is not reason with 49% of the vote that the DA can't enter a coalition with the ID to give it 54%-55% of the total. I think a coalition with a smaller party (and one that has similar values to the DA) would be better as they would be much more appreciative to have their voices "amplified".

What is the law regarding people moving between proviences? I don't think there is anything from stopping anyone from moving, but what if the ANC decides to organize a mass migration of ANC supporters to the WC? Think its plausible?

Think the do in smaller towns, in Laignsburg in the Karoo a small town with nothing going on there used to be no black people. But the black community there grows almost daily, and call me funny but I dont understand why anyone whould want to move there there is nothing. My parents own a farm in the district, heard this from the locals.

The problem with the ID is that auntie Pat wants the Premier position if they, the ID, went into coalition with the DA.
We all know auntie Helen will not give up her prize that easily.
What makes you think they haven't done that already?

Apparently Patricia will become an ordinary member of Parliament and the ID will send someone else in her stead. Its too good an opportunity to pass up especially when your main voters are in the Western Cape.

Well if that's the case, then so be it, because it looks like if the DA has dropped below the 51% mark and will therefore need to form a coalition government.
Now what I had in mind for them, was hoping for an outright majority.
I wonder if De Lille's poor showing has anything to do with that fiasco at the last Local Government Elections for the City of Cape Town where she sided with the ANC and Nomaindia Mfeketo for Mayor.
Can anyone imagine how much ground Zille has won since becoming Mayor of Cape Town and nogal winning the International Prize for best Mayor. I reckon that simply blew Patricia De Lille out of the water.
I doubt they'd get the Premier position if they were the 1% coalition partner to the DA's 49%.

I would prefer if De Lille, Shilowa, Haskin, and some others were used in the areas they do well in.

Employees in the office of the premier were given notices of termination in the run up to the election which was in itself admission of defeat before even the first vote was cast. So yes, it was clear that the ANC had lost ground there.
It's not like they didn't want to win the province, but organisation had not been up to scratch.
There was too much infighting and even stabbings of senior leaders, recalling of Rasool etc.. were all blunders that the ANC in the WC could have avoided

No, no. You've missed the point. Patricia de Lille said she'd either be Premier of the Western Cape or no involved with the provincial government. If the ID forms a coalition with the DA they'll get some sort of MEC position or such, but it won't be filled by Patricia de Lille but by some other ID candidate, as de Lille will serve in Parliament rather.
