Just got this message:

Sorry, but you've been banned (temporarily, though). File downloads are no longer possible until your ban is lifted. This ban is caused by you having more than one file transfer going on at the time (The number:10).Your ranking is: Accidental Leecher.

The ban was set in place on 2003.12.12 at 14:46. Now it is 2003.12.12 16:08

It was the first file that I tried.

Can we ask Telkom to make the damb proxy optional?
This is yet another example of Telkom deciding how we can use our connection.

Of course Telkom score becouse I now have to use my 56K modem to get the file and therfor pay for connect time over and above my ADSL fees.

This must be illegal.

This does not sound like a telkom message.

It sounds more like you have been had as someone has sent you that message to make use of your bandwidth and throw you off the scent while he does.

Looks like a message from an ftp file repository.

caroper - Are you sure that you were not using a downloader that tries to optimise by setting up a sh1tload of parallell connections?

OTOH if a lot of TADSL (thats Telkom ADSL, a bill of goods different from real ADSL) users were attempting downloads from the same site, and the site server decided that they all connect to it from the damb proxy's IP address,and are thus all from the same user, it might well lock us all out.

I guess that Telkom does quite a lot of their choking, capping and redirecting right at their proxy system, and that the chances of them allowing us to bypass the proxy is about zero.

This is definately not a Telkom message. Leeching is a term for filesharing across networks. Usually through LAN parties but it also applies to the use of software like Kazaa, Emule and the like. I can bet on it that this is not a Telkom message. Better we blame Telkom when they really are to blame...
