I would like to thank Eskom, if it weren't for you my PC would be in working order. However due to your 'load shedding' and the power surges that go with it, my pc is no longer with us.
It was a dark and windy night, I had a large amount of photos that needed editting, when everything flickered and the lights went dead.
Knowing that I would now have to wait a couple of hours for the power to turn back on, i settled into a bottle of cheap red wine and a box of cigarettes.
Yay the power came back on! With the taste of one to many smokes in my mouth and a buzz from drinking right from the bottle i pushed the power button and settled in for some work...
Nothing... Nothing happens at all... I got the windows boot window and then it just resets it self. Ah awesome... So i try the tricks that i've learnt over the last couple of years that sometimes get a pc working... still nothing.
Now it doesn't even shot the windows boot screen.
So i try to install windows again... I can't. Nope not at all. It brings up an screen telling me there are errors on every single harddrive...
Awesome. So now all my work, every photo i've taken, all my freelance articles, everything can no longer be accessed. Thanks Eskom, for destroying my PC.
And the best part, this is what gets to me now those blood sucking insurance people say that i can't claim on my computer.
Scream!!!! Needless to say that I've threatened them many many times. And this time i'm going through with it. Having a pissed off journalist on your case is something that most people should stay clear off.
As of tomorrow, i'm going to nail these bastards for not paying out for my PC. Show South Africa what scum they really are.
But that wont bring back my photos, nor any of my copy.

Any one else had hardware destroyed by eskom, "Customer ****ing?"

Why do they say you can't claim? If it's covered and you have the correct insurance policy you can claim.

I thought i had the right insurance policy, when i went in to sign i even asked, does this cover me from power surges I was told yes. However now, they say that I'm not.
Its not a powerpack issue, was one of the first things i checked.
Might sound strange, but my photo hard drive is now, totalled... even when i am in recovery console I can't even do a c:\ dir/w
So i sent an email, to the head of Hollard, telling them what had happened, then I followed it up with a 20 question Email, why people around south africa weren't being paid out for power surge damage. I think they might be getting the hint... And they can't buy me off, buy paying out of my pc. Doesn't work that like that.

If its the whole computer...maby you can claim...depends on the insurance...If its just the Power Supply, no use claiming as the insurance monies will 10-1 be higher than the P-supply.

Luckily I bought me some UPSs a few months back :) (one was faulty since the start and is back in for warranty, what can I bet you there is no warranty stock :()

Kimosabe, another thing you can try to fix the harddrive startup is by putting the harddrive into another PC and maybe running checkdisk, if Windows sees the drive that is...
