There are many. Compare prices and see which ones are Top Rated and look less dodgy.

DO NOT ORDER ONE OF THESE!!

I just got mine, yes only now, and the damn things battery is shot and does not charge any other battery!! I am fuming to say the least!! Now to try and get my money back for this POS!! Hope you got a better deal AfricanTech?

I've got a dashcam... Gecko. Records front and interior, HD 720p both cameras. GPS and accelerometer. Works like a charm. Will post some pics later.

Mine seems to be working fine - I ordered two, unfortunately, my wife subscribes to Mike's approach and won't allow "that cheap junk" into her car - as far as she is concerned, it's a GoPro or nothing :o

Will post some footage tomorrow night (if I remember).

Same problem here. Does not charge battery. Biggest waste of time buying it.

Also looking to get the Genius DVR590.

Guys that have already bought this one: Is it worth the bucks?

When mounted, what does it look like? Does it obstruct your view at all? How did you run the power cable, or do you just leave it dangling down from the camera to the lighter socket?

I don't have this one but mounted mine behind the rearview mirror as it was distracting. It came with a three metre cable running under the steering wheel, in the piping and then along the top of the windscreen. No wires are visible except at the lighter socket and coming down from the windscreen to the cam.

Do you have any pics of what it looks like mounted? I don't want to have my windscreen clogged up with the GPS and now the cam as well.

When you mounted it behind the rear-view mirror, was it mostly out of sight from the driver's seat?

thats really cheap, I paid R1800 for that exact unit a few months ago

I have no issues with it, it sits "infront" of the rearview mirror and I don't actually see the unit.

Good to know!

What's your opinion of the unit? Anything that you don't like or that will make you buy a different cam if you had the chance? Or anything that's really cool and that you'll recommend to your mates?

I bought it to document my drive and thats exactly what it does, other dashcams perform the same function.

I went specifically for this one because I liked the 5MP and the wide FOV, which at the time was unusual for dashcams.

Night viewing I am happy with and its pretty low maintenance- you get in and drive and don't actually have to fidget with the unit.

If I really have to hunt for cons, it sort of goes quickly to emergency mode. My car is a high performance car so if I go over a bump the camera senses it as an accident and then records as such, it doesn't affect the recordings as such but just saves the file as if it relates to an accident. However I suspect this would happen with other dashcams too.

I will post a clip when I get back from work, I posted a clip a few weeks ago driving at night but removed it out of paranoia.

Sounds good, thanks for the write-up.

I'm really just looking for excuses to convince myself not to get it, because I like the idea of having a dashcam in case of emergencies, as well as having footage of the dodgy stuff we get to see on the roads every day.

If you say R1199 for the Genius DVR590 is cheap, then I'll seriously consider getting it.

Question: How did you do the wiring to the lighter socket? Was is possible to hide the cabling so that it doesn't get in the way of the normal driving process?

I turned the g sensor off to avoid it from locking files. If you don't do this, the card will eventually get full and it will not overwrite all the locked files.

thankz signates

@FrankyF, the cable is 3m or so long, so yeah it can be hidden

Does it come with the suction cup connection, I see Take A Lots website doesn't state that is comes with this so just checking?
