Dashboard Cameras

Also found this Transcend one now. Good reviews and a screen for a decent R1730

These HP cameras are the same deal as the HP 200 Media player.
It is an HP branded product, but is made by some Chinese company. The media player and the camera seem to come from the same place. This company is known as LITE-ON. The firmware for the media player is on the LITE-ON site. I haven't checked but I suspect the firmware for the camera will probably be found there too.

It is definitely NOT an officially designed/developed HP product, not by a long shot.

These issues are probably why I'm hesitant to use an action cam as a dash cam, and rather use something that was designed to be a dash cam in the first place, such as the Genius unit that I mentioned earlier in the thread... ;)

hence why I used it for its intended purpose of late, as it just sucks at being a dash-cam.

Yes but the dash cams are jot that great either in terms of quality and mounts that come with them

Mounts maybe, but quality is decent as long as you don't fork out for some cheapie. You have to weigh up your options unfortunately, and for me that means the most important thing is that it has to behave like a dash cam - and that includes looping, start/stop with the car, etc.

Well yes, the HP comes with a box full of mounts, one mount even fits your bike. One mount is really cool for things that go bang because you can screw it down onto a wooden beam.

Seeing that there is a lot of interest maybe I need to hack the HP firmware and see if we can do anything?
FYI it sucks badly at deleting files... it stuffed up the formatting of the SD card I had to reformat by plugging it into a PC.

That would be great.

You can do that???????

Yip it can delete the files... takes ages, freezes a lot. The second time round it came up with "CARD ERROR". Unit is still lying on my desk, haven't had a gap to look further. The other SD card I simply formatted cause I was in a hurry.

No I mean you can hack the firmware ?????
Maybe, I haven't tried anything yet.
Everything I have ever played with from China has had some kind of backdoor in it.
I will put it on the list of "THINGS TO DO WHEN I AM NEXT IN AN IDLE TIME(TM)"
As it is, work is pumping... so might be a while.
