i don't know why the dashcam world is so slow to evolve, it can't be that difficult to develop a system with true 360 degree vision. heck it should be an extra factory built into cars by now.

It might come sooner or later, some ADT patrol vehicles (Nissan NP200s) have 4 separate cams on their lightbars sicne late 2015, probably gives overlapping 360 Full HD view, they started with just normal dashcams in 2013. The market is there and someone will hopefully meet that sooner or later at a decent pricepoint (with added GPS lol).

That dual cam one is also too limited with its 32GB capacity for both cams, even if rear one is 720. Mine records like 3 hours in Full HD on my 32GB...

so far i have found the cheapest cam i'd buy is THIS since the HD quality is very good, cheaper cams record at 1080 but with very crappy quality.

i do like the Eagleye mentioned above cheapest i've found is HERE at R1.6k it has gps and great video quality with a 140 degree lens which i find the perfect width.

i like the dual cams with front and rear in the same cam found HERE but no gps.

so i'm still on the fence.

Pretty much all "dual" camera dash cams are a bit rubbish in some way. It seems there's a lack of suitable chipsets available. Bandwidth for saving to SD is also a potential issue. There's multiple camera systems designed for busses etc but they are huge and essentially a mobile version of a normal cctv DVR,and then they use normal hard drives. It would be nice to start seeing this integrated into cars but they are rather slow to adopt tech. Touch screens are super fancy in cars still.

i have no idea, that wasn't one of my checks when researching cams.

i haven't been able to get sample footage of these dual cams, bandwidth i don't believe to be an issue microSD cards are cheap these days i'll just pop in a 32gb class 10 300x. that should easily sustain writing 2 streams of 1080 video. but if i'm paying extra for dual camera's i'd gps in there as well.

On raw speed alone a class 10 or U1 card should be able to handle 3 high quality 1080 streams. Haven't seen a chipset capable of this yet as it would have to ensure everything is written sequentially. I'd imagine the easiest way would be by combining several streams into a single video file. With the funny non full HD res on that dual cam (despite the huge full HD branding) I suspect that this is what it's doing (cutting off 480x1080 to squeeze in the 1280x720).

32gb at 1080*2 would give you about just over an hour of video.

Probably not going to be practical to run off battery. Just keep it plugged into the 12v socket or get it wired in.

I had my mini 0806 wired in. Cables were tucked neatly behind the trim.

Definitely won't be practical, I don't see it running very long battery, also the trigger to switch on start recording power, do you really want have to keep turning on manually charging it, what if you forget and Murphy's law that's the day something happens.

I plan on hard wiring mine in to a separate feed I'll put inside the dash.

The battery in cameras are only there to shut the unit down safely when power is disconnected.
No other reason
Most of them have a 400mAh battery which won't be able to power the device for very long.

Tucking the cables is a very simple process.
I usually go from 12v socket, under the dash, tuck it away under the inside rubber seal of your door and slip it underneath the A-frame to reach the top of your windscreen.

Done it on my i20 and a Jeep Grand Cherokee and both took under 5 minutes.

Thank you. I'll ask someone to have a look but I cant see how because of the size of the dash and placement of the outlet.

Another reason why I love the eagleye, the power goes into the mount (which incorporates the GPS module)
No need to attach a power cable every time you remove the camera from your car.

Meh, its harder to remove the cam than pull out the USB something cable.

Does the eagleeye not have 2 cables? Or maybe that was a older version, something to do with the GPS part.

One cable which goes into the suction cup (mount) and then has a modular interface for attaching the camera.
No need to touch the cable when you plug it in.

You can also go to a reputable car audio installation shop and pay them to wire it for you. I have a wire coming out from above my mirror and nothing else. They will use your original cable and wire it directly to the power, thus also freeing up your lighter socket.

I'll get a place to wire my cam in with ignition power on and off (my car the lighter socket does go off when turning off the car).

In fact I want to get an eagleeye cam for the front and put my HP into the back window.
