Dashboard Cameras

The wiring is easy if you're willing to spend some time to do it right.

My lighter socket does not go off ever, so I'll wire it to the ignition power on the back of my radio. Maybe put in a relay depending on the rating of the device charger.

You can also go to a reputable car audio installation shop and pay them to wire it for you. I have a wire coming out from above my mirror and nothing else. They will use your original cable and wire it directly to the power, thus also freeing up your lighter socket.
Sensible advice, thank you. :)

So update on the camera, i ordered from gadget boyz, great service, the owner Derick replies to emails after hours. he has the cheapest price i could find and only charges R60 for courier delivery which only took 1 day to get delivered.
the camera itself looks and feels quality. the gps is very quick and so is the camera boot too. would recommend the seller and the cam.

One issue I found with using my phone as a dashcam, was the intense judder.
Does this cam's videos show any similar effect?

Hi sorry for the delay, i read your message and then completely forgot to answer it. I've uploaded some footage to a google drive. some re-encoded 480p and 1080p. looks like videopad reduce the bitrate slightly when compared to the original 1080 but very little.

I just bought myself the Tsumara G3.

It's ok I suppose. I'll take it out for a proper test this weekend.

I originally ordered a different camera but turned out it was no longer available, so they upgraded me to this one. It looks odd, but it's pretty small and out of the way.

Lol dude, the truck indicating for you to pass notwithstanding, you just posted a video of yourself overtaking into the oncoming lane across a solid white line :P Nice quality though, I agree!

where did you order it from? and how much? please post some footage when you get a chance, i'm still in the market for another cam for my other car. the eagleye is great, but that won't stop me from checking out other cams.

Edit: I should have probably checked your location first.

Visited the site and the picture quality looks amazing. Do you know if it is available in South Africa? :)

Here's a link to the video on the lowest settings (720p @ 30fps) which gets me around 9hrs with sound on a 32GB SD.

I'm not impressed with youtube's compression. It's interlaced lots, the original looks much better.

I got mine from dashcams.no , but I'm sure it's sourced from the UK. I'm also not terribly impressed with the camera hardcoding its make and model as a watermark into the video.

EDIT: It comes shipped with an external GPS module and the software package then plots where you drove as well as all the telemetrics regarding speed and direction etc, but I couldn't be bothered with all of that.

EDIT 2: I just found this video of the same camera at night time and it looks pretty dope. Unfortunately I can't film any night time driving for the next 4 months as it's no longer dark here anymore.

I've tried a quick 1s timelapse run on the same camera too with its onboard settings. I'll take it for a proper drive tomorrow to see how it performs on the open road.

Wow, your day never ends. :D

I wonder if putting "I started a 40 page thread" is something I can add to my CV :)

Ended up buying the Eagle Eye camera from here. At the time it was good value and included an SD card, but it looks like it may be cheaper at places like the gadget shop.

Here is a sample of a video I uploaded to report bad driving. I emailed them the link but had no response, so I guess they condone this kind of thing?

Bought myself a Drift Stealth 2 for when I'm on the bike (used sticky mount on helmet). Working great so far, will get a mount for the car next.

Drop the video and I will upload it here to gain some views. :p

The Eagleye V2 is a great cam! haven't seen the brand in any gadget shops.
Also haven't seen anything with similar specs for the same price.
