Dashboard Cameras

Yeah the eagleye v2 has been doing well in my car. Audio quality is also very good. Haven't found anything better for the same price range. Still need another cam for the other car.

Bought a Garmin virb elite for the bike. Yet to pick it up from the office. But the reviews are positive. Not a nice size but they say it can also be used as a dashcam.

Um, that one you've linked isn't from Takealot, but one from Cybotechsa? For what it's worth I wouldn't go with that one ... because that's a dual-camera setup AND it has an integrated screen into a new rearview mirror, it'd require some serious installation work.

If it's for your dear old dad, I'd recommend looking at something from a trusted brand rather: Garmin, Transcend, Papago, HP and Mio are all good. As you've no doubt seen the market is flooded with cheap-and-cheerful Chinese knock-offs, with hugely variable degrees of quality. Like with any tech product try and find independent reviews (Youtube comparison videos are the best) and don't trust all the countless 'Top 10 dashcams of 2016' buyers guide lists out there.

Thank you for the advice! I unfortunately don't know the first thing about them and am trying to educate myself. You are right, I think its better to go with someone trusted. I will keep a look out :-)

Good luck! One of the main things to consider with dashcams is the installation. For it to look neat and professional, you will need the assistance of a professional installer in your area to just help hide the cables behind the dashboard or in the roof lining. It's my understanding that most radio/car alarm installation companies can do that, so it wouldn't hurt asking what they'd charge for the service. The dashcam has to be powered by the car's electricity, and a long cable running from the cigarette lighter adapter to the camera can get annoying after a while (also it means you can't use your lighter socket for other uses). Something else that's important with dashcams (obviously) is the image quality: some of the cheaper cameras perform very badly in difficult lighting conditions at night or during the day, so that's why it's better to pay more and get a quality unit. They all say 'Full HD' these days, but the actual quality they deliver can still be vastly different (e.g. having sufficient clarity to read numberplates - quite important!).

Hi all,

I would like to have any recommendations for a decent Dash Cam. What have you got, how much did it cost, where did you get it from?

TIA

Ahh thank you. I searched for Dash Cam, not dashboard cameras and didn't find any threads.

Finaly saw a Dashcam that I liked thanks to the link agentrfr posted. The DDPai M6+. :)
One little problem, ebay doesn't deliver to South Africa.
Please tell me there is someone who sells it over here.
