Dashcams

Few things to note that they don't tell you in all the marketing crap.

Make sure it's at least 1440p. 1080p is kak, especially at night.

Secondly make sure it supports 5GHz wifi, or you're going to take forever to download clips.

And finally make sure the compression is decent, some of the file sizes are ridiculous because of this, like 250MB per minute for 1080p.

And then there's your personal preference of whether you want a suction cup or sticker mount. I wanted a suction cup so I can easily move it around.

I've been through all this pain with various cameras and I'm finally happy with this one...

Saw the original post and was also interested to see what people are using.
I use a Wolfbox G900 Pro, which replaces the rear view mirror. Had to wire in a camera for the rear but it does act like a rear view mirror when off, although a little dark. Best I can describe is that it looks like a tinted mirror.
Haven’t had any actual need for it, yet, but just as a rear view mirror and reverse cam it is excellent. Much better than a mirror and because it is wired into the reverse switch it gives a lower parking view when you select reverse.
Super easy to operate and live with.
Also has a G monitor to record any activity while parked.

Voice commands is useful at it offers a quick way to manually record event for which I am using a Garmin Mini Dash 3 at the moment.

Unfortunately resolution is a red herring. You can have fantastic footage on a 720p camera with a high dynamic range sensor that takes good low light footage just as you can have rubbish footage at night on a 4k camera if the sensor isn't great quality / size.
True, what you actually want is something with a Starvis sensor. But there's not many at 1080p or below that have one...

All the above and also ensure the camera has a picture/video recording of at least 120 deg and not just your cars width.

I am still using a Garmin Dash Cam 55, been rock solid and captured some great footage of the idiocracy on SA roads.
I have the same unit as well - had it since December 2017 - no issues apart from it now needs an internal battery replacement - recently got a new 64GB SanDisk microSD card & a suction mount for it, as the hexagonal magnetic mount was installed in my previous car, and it would have been an issue to try & pry it off of the windscreen glass.
