Hi Guys and gals

Could anyone plase advise me what i can do.

On 23/10/2010 I purchased a 24 Hour Data Bundle with my loyalty Points (1700) - *141*2*9# .Before purchasing the bundle I called customer care (808) and enquired about the Bundle .I was told by the consultant that bundle will be activated from the moment of purchase for 24 Hours and I will have data for that time period .REF : 68181955 .As soon as I completed a I received a confirmation sms from MTN (555) “ Y’ello , you have purchased 24Hour data bundle using 1700 Loyalty points .Your points balancer is ??? points ” . At 08:38 23/10/2010

At about 13:00 on the same day after being on the Internet from the time of purchase ,my connection just dropped .I tried making a call and was denied . I then called 808 and was told that my line has been suspended .I asked how that could be and was told I had reached my account limit of R1000. How did I exceed my limit if I had a 24 Hour data on my account ,No calls were made no sms were sent ,Only data was used .

Monday 25/10/2010 08:31 I called 808 Ref : 68221574 and was told my line was suspended and its due to R1500 rand data charges ????? .How is that even plausible, my limit is only R1000 .I was then told there was a system problem and then told to call back later .

Three questions

1 Why was I charged for data calls after the purchase of my bundle
2 Why do the charges total R1500 when I have a limit of R1000
3 What happens to the data bundle I purchased as I did not use it for 24 Hours , as it was supposed to be a 24 Hour bundle.

Thanks

Welcome to Ayoba!!!

Have been trying for a month to get my data and sms bundles not to come off my airtime money - only tied another 23 months then I am done with mtn!!

To my knowledge there is two steps involved with this bundle. I took it for a test drive once to see what its like. You first have to purchase it....and then after that you have to still activate it. If you dont activate the bundle then you will be charged for the data. Sounds like you did not activate it after you purchased it.

How would you go about activating the bundle.

This just shows once again that the only way to use wireless data is with a pre-paid AND capped SIM !!!! Like the Cell C data product !

ANYTHING ELSE IS JUST TOO DANGEROUS !

You just cannot use data on any contract product - this is my view, and I strictly abide by this !

The OOB rates charged by the ISP's are just outrageous, and have crippled many people financially.

I know a journalist who works in the consumer section of a newspaper, and this is their Nr 1 complaint - but there is nothing that they can do to help the public.
