MTN - 1 Day/24hrs R50 Uncapped - Discussion
Began officially, round about 13 April.
To obtain; dial 555, option 3.
"The '1 day unlimited' service lasts for 24 hours once activated. A fair usage policy of 150MB will however apply which a speed rate of 128kbps will be applied, for the remainder of the 24hrs."
After you hit the 150MB mark, your speeds get throttled to 128kbps.
I can tell you that 128kbps via Opera/Opera Mini/BOLT and any other browser (besides default) shouldn't be a burdensome experience. Pages will load relatively fast. I don't recommend anyone to use their handsets as a modem after the 150MB mark is reached.

If service is activated at 06:00, April 4 2010, it should expire/end at 06:00, April 5 2010.
I'm going to be considering 3 speed types (I'm not considering 7.2mbps and 3.6mbps for now). This is just to get an idea.
Speeds are:
1. 3G (384kbps)
2. EDGE (296kbps (some handsets vary here))
3. GPRS (100kbps (some handsets vary here))
My calculations are taking account of the 24/7 download theory. I am going to devide by 12 not by 8, the norm, since speeds coverage are unreliable and are affected by various factors.
NOTE: 1 day = 24hrs = 1440mins x 60 = 86400secs.
Profile 1. 3G (384kbps)
384 / 12 = 32KB/s, therefore 150000/32 = 4688sec, therefore 4688/60 = 78min = 1hr & 12min = 150mb
Time left = 22hrs 48min or 22.8 x 60 = 1368min x 60 = 82080sec. Then 128kbps / 12 = 11KB/s, therefore 11 x 82080 = 902.880MB + 150MB = 1052.88MB or 1GB 29MB.
Profile 2. EDGE (296kbps)
296 / 12 = 24KB/s, therefore 150000/24 = 6250sec, therefore 6250/60 = 104min = 1hr & 44min = 150MB.
Time left = 22hrs 16min or 22.1 x 60 = 1326min x 60 = 79560sec. Then 128kbps / 12 = 11KB/s, therefore 11 x 79560 = 875.160MB + 150MB = 1025.16MB or 1GB 10mb.
Profile 3. GPRS (100kbps)
100 / 12 = 9KB/s, therefore 150000/9 = 16666sec, therefore 16666/60 = 278min = 4hrs & 38min = 150MB.
Time left = 19hrs 22min or 19.3 x 60 = 1158min x 60 = 69480sec. Then 100 / 12 = 9KB/s, therefore 9 x 69480 = 625.53MB + 150MB = 776.53MB or ~0.78GB
If you have an HSUPA/HSDPA handset, you should hit Profile 1 easily, and surpass it too. Most of us will probably fall on Profile 1/2. Then if the network is disoriented you'll atleast get Profile 3.
Some users claim they have done in excess of ~8GB, apparently, because of a system error/fault from MTN's side, where they never got throttled to the pronounced 128kbps.
