OK so I've been desperate for a job to make some extra cash. So I went to vottle.co.za and checked out the jobs section, turns out there are quite a few "companies" that offer jobs as a data capturing/email typist. So the possible "R2500 per week" doesn't look to bad, and you do get paid per job done so you can work at whenever time u want.

Anyways, this does seem kinda legit, and it only needs a R50 once off fee to join. Was wondering if any of you have ever tried or been scammed by these people. Like I know it's only R50 that I can lose but R50 means a lot to a student. Just don't want it to be some sort of scam.

I posted about something similar appearing on Gumtree. Scam.

Remember to you and me R50 may not be that much, but if they scam e.g. 100 fools, they make a profit of R 5000.

I emailed one of them and asked for proof or something? they gave me that site. The site looks pathetic... how could a small company like this afford to pay agents "R2500 p/w". Ha atleast I'm having a little fun emailing this chick.

here's how these data entry/ad typist things work:
they post ads on gumtree etc saying that you'll process orders or be an ad typist or whatever, and that you get paid for each order/ad
but you have to pay Rxxx for the "training materials"
after paying your Rxxx, you receive a little email with a little document which basically tells you to do exactly what the person you paid did.

i nearly fell for this, luckily the person who posted the ad said you'll earn R150 per order, but you have to pay R150 for the "training materials"... which is when i started thinking. emailed her and asked if i was right in assuming that that's how the game works, she confirmed, admitted that it's kinda a scam and tried to justify it by saying that money's tight.

anything you have to pay to earn money is a scam

you dont go into a position at an employer and pay them an "entrance fee" for being one of the privilaged few to work there?

No, those of us who are not into bribery and corruption, do not pay for a job.

There are people out there who 'buy' jobs, though.

Hmmm... Pity you're not in Bloem. We have data-capturing jobs every now and then that we like using students for. They earn pretty good money too, if they bring their side. Not R2000+/week though.

No data-capturing/typist job will earn you R10k p/m...

R4k p/m is possible MAYBE

Really? How much does a job cost and how much is my potential to earn? Because i seriously fail to see how giving up money to earn more magic money makes business sense ??

Reminds of that letter going around where you pay R50 into three peoples bank accounts each and are supposed to re-distribute the letter to thousands of others so they can pay you in return.

Oh and earn 3bazillion rand in 2 weeks or something stoopid.

I just lol'd at it :P

Maybe you misunderstand me.

Example: One of our clients asked us to get forensic investigators, because one of their employees were sellling jobs to people. In other words, Mr A works in HR and he is the one shortlisting and/or interviewing people. He then asks certain candidates to pay him in order to shortlist them, or even appoint them.

It happens a lot, Acid, especially in the appointment of people in low-ranking positions.

That's like those ads from the 80's and 90's where u could get a Job on an Oil rig, and earn 10 000$ pm - just send a S A S E and R50 to...

Or the "filling envelopes job" where u get R5 per envelope...

A little before our time, but there was that guy who sold some cultured milk or something .... he conned just about the whole country ... and he now lives somewhere in the Northern Cape.

some ppl with Degrees dont start of with a salary above R10 000, so how are you going to earn R10 000 per month capturing data ? Even if you where earning that much as data capturer you wouldn't like your job at all. It takes a little common sense to figure these things out.

Adriaan Nieuwoudt is his name ...
