Data Centre war in SA

That is unfortunately at best a Tier 3 DC then...

Tier 4 requires redundancy on ALL paths.. and gennies are classified as backup power, not an active power supplier.

(Granted I stand to be corrected on that, but I was under the impression that a Tier 4 DC has active redundancy on every system)

This is actually good news, the more competition the better. Good for the economy

BCX have dual data centres - I suppose they can spin the configuration to suit the discussion. Surely at some point the separation between the locations (or lack thereof) also enters the arguement about whether they have true redundancy.

I challenge the accuracy of this article on one point.

"Cybernest currently has in the region of 10 000 square metres of hosting space spread across data centres in Gauteng, Cape Town and Hartbeespoort."

I live in Harties and no where is there anything connected to Cybernest here.

I don't think Dual DC's makes either of them a Tier 4.... as they both rely on the same power supplier...

Generally there won't be a big flashing sign saying "Lots of bandwiffs and kompootahrs here!". In fact, many of the larger DCs are in places where you wouldn't guess that there'd be a DC, for that exact reason.

Peon is correct! I seriously doubt if it is Hartbeespoort... I think it should be Hartebeeshoek!!!
