Data contract billing.

Apparently they need more staff out in the field "getting the job done".

uhuh...and I went into an MTN store last week - one of the 2 girls behind the counter was so trashed that she couldn't see straight, let alone punch the correct info into her computer...

Yea MTN's billing is a mess, i am even paying me account manually because MTN simply can not figure out how to bill my credit card anymore!!

I have just received my new bundle and got cut off for exceeding my cr. limit of R1000.00 even though I have 330MB loaded.
My account this month is R240.00 as I went slightly over 350MB.

This has happened to me many many times until i raised my credit limit. R1000 might be too low for you, you're going to shave that limit every month unless you stay perfectly "in bundle".

What MTN do is, they "invoice" your account in ADVANCE. So if you have a R240 subscription, when your bundle renews [i.e. the 13th every month] the subscription amount is loaded on your account PLUS the amount of the previous month.

Your total outstanding amount on the 13th/26th [whenever your bundles renew] will generally be:

R240 [previous month sub]
Rxx [all extras previous month, i.e. going out of bundle]
+
R240 [your current month, yes you have not even used this service yet, but your account will already have this on]
Ryy [all unbilled in the current month]

If the total is above your credit limit, blam you're shut down even though you have not used your bundle yet!

When MTN eventually bills you [if you are lucky] only ONE months outstanding amount goes off, so every month when your bundles reset, you will be TWO months behind.

So odds are you did not use R1000 in -one- month, it's just the 2nd months invoice that was added on top.

MTN will charge you, it might just be months later...Their system cannot update in near real time and your data use is only known much later. This is when they charge you for it out of bundle or take it off your bundled data if you are lucky I guess. Watch your account carefully. I am not even using MTN prepaid as I had my bundle stolen. I simply do not trust MTN. Judging by the number of complaints at Hello Peter (which does not help) the problem is getting worse by the day. MTN is in chaos, I wonder if it will experience a meltdown soon. Network outages, network failure, network congestion, faulty billing systems, bad customer service, apathy towards their clients - the list goes on. If only MTN would admit there is a serious problem and inform their customers so that we can understand. Maybe they're afraid everyone will jump ship to another provider. I'm going to cancel my contract after being with them since they began - I'm too afraid to use my phone for anything lest I end up with another huge surprise bill. Five weeks and still no reply from the MTN billing department about my outrageous billing disaster...

I've had an ongoing query since June last year.....still not sorted out!

I don't know if this is an Autopage thing, according to them I've used up all my data , 3 months in a row, so I requested for a detailed bill. I saw that they charge in units and not in Megabytes. They round the usage to the next MB. It doesn't matter if you just connect and disconnect . You get billed for 1 unit.

MTN DATA BILLING DISASTER

I am suddenly being billed for out of bundle usage for PREVIOUS months! I keep close track of my usage not to exceed my bundle, and am very suspicious regarding MTN billing!

A colleague of mine was even worse affected.

MTN Active is useless!

O when, o when, does my contract expire!

(I was supposed to be on TOPUP, as I requested when I took out the contract. Now apparently, I am not!)

Hellopeter.. and ICASA, here I come.

I have the same problem. I keep in mind that the *162# does not update every day, so I use NetMeter AND Ginggs programme to check my daily usage and keep a log. As soon as I reach my limit I switch to my prepaid.

Got billed out of bundle R1100.00 OVER 3 MONTHS this month???

Also, I get charged out of bundle a week after and 3 days later, no charge for a week and then charged again etc.

No correlation to my *162# which I do every day.

Can any one explain what is a Packet Switched Data? A friend of mine have a contract with MTN for 500Mb per month for the past 6 months. She have been payng her account and is up to date with her account. this month she received a bill on which they charge her R19 000.00 for Packet Switched Data. She phoned MTN and only got a Ref Number and and answer that they will investigate.

Packet switched data is GPRS / WAP / 3G / HSDPA data.

Hey guys

I have posted this on the the X1 thread but they suggested i post it around about there or somewhere...

Anyways i use my X1 as a modem to get internet on my phone, so....

Just a quick question when you using you phone as a modem is one billed separately for data usage or does it come off ones anytime(MTN) free minutes??

I was told 2 mtn call centre ops that its get deducted off ones free airtime. Then this morning another op told me it doesnt.

I surfed the net last night have about 307 free rands airtime and after logging off noticed i had a billing fee of R13 and still had 307 free rands airtime.

Anyone know what real deal is??

This is the first time i am have really started using the internet at home due to me using my phone as a modem, so i am just wondering what eats data usage the most, besides downloading naturally. How does streaming use data usage??

Normally just use msn, check mail, facebook and browse.

My bill is normally between 400-600 now end of this month its 3K and i wasn't online that much really. Did stream a bit though You tube etc

Any ideas??

Thanks

As far as I know the anytime contracts don't have free minutes like the old contracts used to.
Data definitely would not come off free minutes, and does seem to come off free airtime, but there may be a catch.

You best bet is to load a data bundle, this dramatically reduces what you pay per megabyte.

i have a question, im not too sure how the billing works for data bundles and the PSD calls, but i have a 1 gb data bundle with MTN but they have screwed up with my billing so badly, they charged me for two 1 gb bundles, which they said was my mistake and they charged me R598.67 for PSD calls, what the hell?????

When you ask to have a bundle loaded on a MTN contract there are a few things to be careful of.

1. If you have an existing bundle and you load another one, the first one will fall away, even if the 1 GB bundle was never used.

2. Data usage is charged at R2 per MB out of bundle and is deducted from your inclusive airtime (R100 for Anytime 100 contracts), although this may change to only deduct up to 20% of the value of your inclusive airtime and then be billed separately.

sorry im just trying to undertand, so the PSD calls is effectively the out of bundle rate that im charged on my anytime contract, even though i still have a data bundle extra on my contract? because i see most of the charges from the PSD calls is actually when my data bundle still has mb's left.
