Ok, so last night late I checked my balance on a 3Gb bolt-on, just to make sure VC doesn't cheat me out of bandwidth with the rollover ... well, they did!
Code:
Month Threshold Used Bundle Remaining Bundle Expiry Date
June 4.53GB 7.24 MB 4.53GB 2009-Jun-30
May 3.58GB 1.77GB 1.82GB 2009-May-31
According to my Calculations, there is about 300Mb missing

Maybe they are taking some of mine to give to the other people for free ;)

Well, it depends how you define cheated. :)

Vodacom use your new bundle before they use the leftover from last month, you only used 1.77GB of your May bundle, so at the end of May only 1.23GB gets carried over for June. You lose the unused 0.58GB leftover from April.

At the beginning of June you got 3.0GB + 0.30GB free + 1.23GB leftover from May = 4.53GB.

Ahh, thanks ginggs ... makes sense :)

Makes sense Yes, Fair No!

Vodacom should take the remaining bundle first. That is the fair way of doing it.

Not how I understood it!

+1

I was quite miffed when I saw my rollover amount was 0!

So to get the "benefit" of the rollover I HAVE to use the full amount available to me at least every 2nd month? This is NOT "data rollover" as I understood the concept.

Vodacom, I'm another disappointed customer. FIX IT!

Yea, this is kind of a rip off, so it means if i have a 1GB bundle, and 500MB rolls over and i use my full 1GB next month..bam no rollover, i lose that 500MB .

So basically Vodacom's rollover is "every 2nd month"-rollover [and then you only benefit from it, if you actually go out of bundle!]

MTN isn't working like this, as i have some MBs rolled over -every- month [if i use less than the original bundle].

Same issue here!!

Still had 145 mb left from May; recharged 1 June and 145 mb is gone :(

Now, instead of the 400 mb I was expecting to have after downloading some stuff I only have 250 mb left for the month.

I feel cheated!

I have had the exact same issue - logged an account query about 2 weeks ago - heard nothing!

What a joke! I had an adhoc 1Gig bundle (started on 26 March) that I only used about 300MB. Then at the start of April, they used up my normal monthly 1Gig bundle first. After I had used 1000MB for that month, after 26 April they started billing me per MB again!

Absolute bull! Seems like MTN are equally full of it.

I think I'm done with 3G/HSDPA - it is just too much effort to keep checking all of these things.

It seems like the only safe way to uses the system is to buy an adhoc bundle, and wait for it to run out completely, then buy another one, etc.

If I read your dates correctly, you bought the ad-hoc bundle BEFORE the roll-over kicked in.

When I bought the bundle, I was told that it would last for 30-days? From 26 March to 26 April? Don't all adhoc bundles last for 30 days?

Yup, so it would've expired on the 26th of April. Exactly when it seems to have done so.

Nope, thats not it... Sorry, I don't think I explained it correctly.

* I had a monthly 1 GB bundle. It ran out on 20 March.
* On 26 March a added an adhoc 1GB bundle.
* I used about 300MB from 26 March to 1 April. So 700MB should have been left ?
* From 1 April, my fresh 1GB mothnly was used until it was finished (around the last week of April) . By then the 1GB adhoc had expired, even though it was unused. For the last week of April I was then charged per MB and billed for it.

If they had first used up the remaining 700MB from 1 April to 26 April, my monthly 1GB bundle would have had plenty data left for me to use until the end of the month.

I think this is because the rollover only kicked in and was effective after the 4th April 2009 (can't remember the start date of the rollover offhand)
If you recharged on the 26th March, this was before the rollover start date, so it wouldn't have qualified.
I believe that bundles purchased after the rollover start date then rollover to the next month.

Well, when I bought the once-off (adhoc) 1Gig bundle on 26 March, I was told it is valid for 30 days, not just till the end of the current month.

So is there a confirmation on the "your current bundle is used up first, before the previous months rollover data is used" thing?

MTN sure don't do that, i don't see how Vodacom can do so either as it will only cause major issues down the line ..both in the marketing dept. and the billing department followed by a whole bunch of irate customers who feels they're being cheated.

I mean, surely everyone can see clearly that it's not possible to rollover data every month with such a system? Every 2nd month you will need to use your entire bundle -and- digg into the rolled over data to actually use it all....and once you're there, then there's nothing left to rollover . So this system is only good for people who -never- goes out of bundle , but once every 3 or so months wants to go over....

...UNLESS rolled over data can rollover again ??

hey guys... newbie here.;)

I have the same issue where my current bundle is used up first, before the previous months rollover data is used

from my understanding it is suppose to work on a 'bucket' system, where all the data is added together, and everythin up to your monthly bundle rate is carried over!

Even the vodacom website says so

There is no differentiation between the allocation and carry-over MB, thus neither allocation nor carry-over MB will be counted first towards consumption
Example:

* A customer subscribes to a MyMeg 500 24 month contract on 1 May
* On 31 May, the customer has used 250MB of the allocation and is granted 250MB carry-over (500MB allocation - 250MB usage)
* On 1 June, the customer is allocated 500MB and the 250MB carry-over is added and the customer has 750MB to consume ("the bucket") up to 30 June
* On 30 June, the customer has used 250MB of the bucket and is granted 500MB carry-over (750MB - 250MB = 500MB)

or am i missing something (beside my last months data)

My understanding was that you first deplete your monthly allocation and then eat into whatever was rolled over form the previous month.

But (like you) I find the vodacom.co.za description confusing, so I've asked for clarity.

it is confusing....but then i read the example

and this just add emphasis to the "Bucket" theory .
