Good evening.

I bought a Xiaomi 4A and had a telkom Promo 5 data only sim, that I wanted to use for data only and another sim for Voice only. But when I switch the data only sim to be on internet it says no service? Would it be possible to do such a thing or not maybe I am just missing some settings?

Thanks.

You should be able to do it. Have you tried restarting your phone?

You can also check the APN settings for your data sim card, see below settings:

APN: internet or TelkomInternet
Dial Number: *99#

With many of the dual SIM Chinese phones SIM1 supports both data and voice while SIM2 only supports voice. Have you tried using the Telkom SIM in Slot 1? The Redmi 4A does appear to allow data access on either SIM card.

Q) What kind of SIM card slot does the phone have? Can I use two SIM cards and a microSD card at the same time?

A) The Redmi 4A features a hybrid SIM card slot. This means that you can either 1 SIM card and microSD card or 2 SIM cards at any given time. The primary SIM slot accepts microSIM cards, while the secondary slot accepts nanoSIM cards.

Q) Does the Redmi 4A support 4G SIM cards on both SIM slots?

A) Yes, the Redmi 4A supports 4G SIM cards on both its SIM slots. However, you can only have one SIM connected to a 4G network at any given time.

Well it does not matter, if I take out the Voice and leave the Data only in. The device just says no signal if you search for network it picks up all the networks but can not register to any of them.

Something wrong with the phone, what happens if you insert the other SIM in that slot?

The other sim works fine in both slots picks up 4G voice everything is fine, just does not like the data only sim, the Data only sim works fine in the 3G dongle but not in the phone.

My Telkom 10GB data only sim works fine in my dual SIM CAT S60 and my old dual SIM Lenovo tablet and my Huawei tablet. Go do a SIM swap maybe...

Or else the phone doesn't have the frequencies Telkom uses.

Yeah was thinking that as well, but I really do not feel like dealing with them... Guess I will have to. Thanks

Both sims are Telkom though and the Voice and Data sim works fine only the sim that support only Data does not pick up.

Some of Telkom's data products were locked to only connect to their new LTE network. A standard SIM would be enabled for roaming on MTN as well. Perhaps it's a coverage issue at your location.

UPDATE : Thanks had the time to go get a sim swap and that sorted everything... Seems like the old sims had some sort of block on it.
Hope the thread served some purpose to someone.

Cheers
